Willowvale residents nab rape suspect

2012-04-25 16:17
Johannesburg - Willowvale, Eastern Cape residents have arrested a man who allegedly raped a 9-year-old girl, police said on Wednesday.

"The community did not assault the suspect as [he] did not fight when he was arrested," Captain Jackson Manatha said.

The girl was home alone on Tuesday when the man entered at 15:30 and allegedly raped her. Residents heard her screams, chased him and caught him.

"Police were called and they rushed to the scene, where the community handed over the suspect to the police," said Manatha.

The man was expected to appear in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
