Johannesburg - An unemployed man, who won about R5.4m in the Powerball draw at the weekend, said on Wednesday that he's going to take his family out for a meal, give money to the church and start his own business.
According to a statement by the national lottery, the 45-year-old unemployed man, a married father of two, is one of two winners in Friday night's Powerball draw.
He claimed his prize on Tuesday after having walked, as usual, to the local shop where he buys his tickets to check the winning numbers.
This time, he struck gold. He had bought R21 worth of Powerball numbers, which won him half of the R10.7m jackpot. The second winner has not yet claimed their prize.
According to the statement, he feels the R21 and the winnings have now given him the key to a better future.
First treat
And he's got big plans. He wants to start his own business, give his children a good education, buy a car, a house on the East Rand and another house in Limpopo, and then also invest some of the money.
He also wants to donate money to the church, but first he's going to treat his family to a meal, he said.
Friday night was the first time that the jackpot was won by two tickets since the Powerball game started in February last year. Both of the winning tickets were bought in Gauteng.
Tuesday night's prize money of R3.1m was won by a ticket bought in the North-West.
Friday night's jackpot is expected to be about R5m.
