Johannesburg - An elderly woman has been left partially paralysed after a robber pushed her into the boot of her car, where she spent two days and three nights before she was rescued.

reported that well-known Wakkerstroom flower grower Brenda Carter, 80, suffered a stroke during the attack and was now unable to talk, as well as being paralysed on the right side of her face.

She was rescued after a bit of her scarf stuck out from the boot of her Mercedes-Benz and this was seen by a worker.

Her son, David Carter, 50, said his mother - who lived next door to the police station - was attacked as she got out of her car on Friday night. Her handbag was stolen and she was locked in her boot.

“Everyone feels so bad and guilty, because while they looked for my mom over the weekend, they walked past the car several times…No one thought to look in the boot,” said Carter, an artist from Johannesburg.

Temperatures dropped to -7 °C in Wakkerstroom over the weekend and the car was parked outside.

“My mother, who was the life and soul of the town and always ready for a party, can now no longer talk and is paralysed on her right side,” said her son.

Carter is currently being treated in hospital.

A former employee has been arrested in connection with the attack.
