Johannesburg - A woman was injured while shielding her child from a wheel which fell off a truck in Benoni, on the East Rand, on Tuesday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the woman and her 3-year-old child were walking on the side of the road when two of the truck's wheels fell off and bounced towards them.

“The woman tried desperately to shield her three year old little boy, and also pushed him out of the way,” said Jackson.

One of the wheels then collided into the woman’s hip and she suffered a bump on her head as well as scrapes on her hands.

The woman and her child were taken to hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable.

The truck driver was not injured.
