Woman claims stepdad raped her as a child

2012-08-24 09:03

Durban - A Durban woman has come forward after 21 years with claims that her stepfather raped her and her sister when they were little girls.

The Mercury reported that a prosecutor in court pleaded with a judge not to hold it against the woman that she took so long to report the rapes.

Prosecutor Melanie Naicker said the man had indecently assaulted and raped the woman and her sister from when they were 7 and 8-years-old and the attacks continued for nine years.

"They were two little girls who wanted to come out with their story but he told them that they would be sent away if they did. Their mother even asked them to wait because of her other young children.”

The man was arrested in 2010 when he returned to SA from the UK.

He admitted to some acts of indecent assault but denied raping them.

He had since divorced the girls’ mother.

The woman decided to come forward after hearing that he was marrying another woman in the UK who had a daughter.

"They might have come forward late, but they have done the right thing,” Naicker said.

I just hope she was on some sort of pregnancy prevention.

      riette.nothling - 2012-08-24 10:59

yeah, like that is the biggest issue in this story! You saying it's right that she was raped just as long as she didn't get pregnant? To bad I can call you what is coming to mind, I'd be censored.

"The woman decided to come forward after hearing that he was marrying another woman in the UK who had a daughter". So if the ex-husband had not got married to another woman in London, was the mother of the 2 raped daughters going to report the rape case. "They might have come forward late, but they have done the right thing,” I am sorry for what happened to the daughters but the mother is also to be blamed.

      bob.small.7547 - 2012-08-24 09:31

If the mother never saw the signs over a period of 9 years, then she is either very naïve or plain stupid..! What the man did is inexcusable to say the least! But a mother should be on the lookout for her children’s well being and safety at all turns. This story smacks of revenge when it counted for personal reasons!

@ Zim, you're not thinking straight. Doesn’t matter who tells you what, WHAT does your intelligence tells YOU!?!? Something like this doesn't belong to ANY culture, it is just the perpetrators who would believe this. My intelligence is telling me NO man/father/brother/etc has the right to have sex with his daughter/sister .. we call that RAPE/MOLESTING The marry-bit was just the last straw to force her over the edge to come out with the truth as another young GIRL's live could be ruined by this idiot ... CASTRATE, take away the things that is giving him so much hassle!

ZIM: You Ignorant uneducated Moron!!! I am a rape victim by own father, and i can GUARANTEE you it was NO Flippen test drive!!!!!!!!!! At the age of 14 I was Innocent and he TOOK THIS FROM ME!!!!! Be Very careful when you make comments about things like this...

      riette.nothling - 2012-08-24 11:01

She knew alright, she just didn't do anything because he was providing for the family, which is the sorry case in many homes in this country. She should be accused as an accomplice, and hopefully her daughters never speak to her again.

      riette.nothling - 2012-08-24 11:03

@ zimbobwe, it's because of mentality like yours that rape is such a huge problem and a non-issue in our government! Your child is not yours to "testdrive"! My word, your culture's moronic justification of crimes is just pathetic!!!

      theO rAcLe - 2012-08-24 11:10

@ Zim You flippin Idiot... Its because of your and other cultures that this sh! t happens, We live in civilised times, or so we think..WTF, Suppose you test drive your daughter to.? MORON

The legal system is so rotten and there are so many incompetent prosecutors. I applaud the courage of the victims in this case and I trust that at least the man is exposed as a sex offender in the public domain.

  • clay.gray.505 - 2012-08-24 09:44

The mother should be put on trial as well. How do you tell your children not to do anything?

  • ndou.miranda - 2012-08-24 09:46

Hawu, why only after she hears that his husband is marring other woman, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

      zmogale - 2012-08-24 11:03

because the new woman has a daughter. they are trying to stop history from repeating itself

      riette.nothling - 2012-08-24 11:05

because she wants to spare another girl from the pain and humilation of being raped by a "father figure", surely you as a woman can't believe it's because of spite because he is moving onto another victim! Sies on you!

"They were two little girls who wanted to come out with their story but he told them that they would be sent away if they did. Their mother even asked them to wait because of her other young children.” So why was the mother not arrested as well? this statement sounds like she knew it was happening

      shelley.vorster.9 - 2012-08-24 10:33

Simply put... The mother was more concerened about herself. She should be tried as an accomplice

  • jaredmgodwin - 2012-08-24 09:56

I have just finished reading a well-known SA book entitled "It's me, Anna" which explains a frighteningly similar story, a story based on actual events...this abuse has to stop, and is much more rife than we see or hear about in the news....come on SA men, man up and treat your women and children the way they are supposed to be treated - with the utmost love and respect, not shattering their worlds through abuse on all different levels just to leave an empty shell of a person, and causing the cycle to just repeat itself.....

  • paul.molokwane - 2012-08-24 09:57
