Durban - A Durban woman has come forward after 21 years with claims that her stepfather raped her and her sister when they were little girls.

The Mercury reported that a prosecutor in court pleaded with a judge not to hold it against the woman that she took so long to report the rapes.

Prosecutor Melanie Naicker said the man had indecently assaulted and raped the woman and her sister from when they were 7 and 8-years-old and the attacks continued for nine years.

"They were two little girls who wanted to come out with their story but he told them that they would be sent away if they did. Their mother even asked them to wait because of her other young children.”

The man was arrested in 2010 when he returned to SA from the UK.

He admitted to some acts of indecent assault but denied raping them.

He had since divorced the girls’ mother.

The woman decided to come forward after hearing that he was marrying another woman in the UK who had a daughter.

"They might have come forward late, but they have done the right thing,” Naicker said.
