2010-12-16 09:33

Bloemfontein - A woman was killed and 45 passengers injured when a Roadlink bus overturned on the N1 highway south of Kroonstad, police said on Thursday.

Free State police spokesperson Maselela Langa said the woman, trapped in the wreckage, died on the scene.

"The rest of the passengers were taken to the Kroon Private hospital for treatment."

Langa said the accident happened when the driver apparently tried to avoid an oncoming truck some 15km south of Kroonstad on the N1 around 04:00.

      Akkedissie - 2010-12-16 10:17

      Nay, its the owners

      Bratt - 2010-12-16 17:15

Actually, they are just poorly serviced/managed/driven and shouldn't be on the roads.

  • mollie.kruger - 2010-12-16 09:57

    Very unfortunate...

  • Zion - 2010-12-16 10:00

With their history for accidents and deaths Roadlink should be closed down permanently.

  • Zukisani - 2010-12-16 10:09

this is it for roadlink, for real this time around, their buses are really cursed ,i have never seen any thing like this before

      freddy.mactavish - 2010-12-16 10:24

I agree with u there zuki, roadlink is surely cursed, its time for them to make like a tree and leave!!!!

  • Dog Poo - 2010-12-16 11:02

Sieees! what kind of drivers do these A$$HOLES hire, trust these fools for saving money at a highe cost of human life, probably one driver for a return trip.

      Dog Poo - 2010-12-16 11:07

Avoid an oncoming truck, I wonder who was driving in the oncoming lane, the tuck driver of the bus driver. NEWS24 tell the story, no one even bothered to ask this.

      paulvs - 2010-12-16 13:14

I can tell you for sure that one driver drives from JHB to DBN and back, and back again in one day, close to 1800 km non-stop, so that the owners can bank money during the festive season. the scary part is, that no-one can close down Roadlink, he (Reddy) is linked woth every politician in S.A

      Bratt - 2010-12-16 17:17

      This here explains a LOT...

  • moongoddess2410 - 2010-12-16 11:21

Of course he tried to avoid the truck . . . AS THE BUS WAS MOST LIKELY OVERTAKING ANOTHER BUS OR TRUCK!!! And therefore was driving on the wrong side of the road. Am wondering sometimes where those drivers get their licenses . . .

      moongoddess2410 - 2010-12-16 11:52

Sorry, my prayers go out to the family who has lost a mother/daughter Especially now, just before Christmas. May those who were injured recover quickly. All others out there . . .remind yourself to eb grateful for each moment you have and with each other.

      derek55 - 2010-12-16 16:03

I totally agree with moongoddess2410, my deepest sympathy to the family of the lady who lost her life. I wonder how many more people are going to lose their lives to reckless and impatient drivers on our roads. maybe someone should follow a minibus taxi or long distance bus with a video for a while and then post the footage on YOUTUBE

      Bratt - 2010-12-16 17:20

@derek55 - that would probably be the shortest vid on YouTube. Intro - 'Today we are going to follow a minibus taxi, here in South Africa to see how dange... OMG, it just drove over a scooter and crashed into a tree[replace with any immobile object within the vicinity]!'

      derek55 - 2010-12-16 21:05

And I have barely typed these words when the news came through of a minibus taxi driver who lost control of his taxi, crashed into a river, and killed 11 innocent people in one go.

  • Anton - 2010-12-16 11:50

Why are they still in business???

  • Organist-1 - 2010-12-16 15:40

Get it into your heads guys. There is no such thing as a driver or a bus or a company that is cursed. It's this stupid government and their BEE and AA bootlickers whose only concern is their back pocket. They never learnt the word "safety" at school. Everything they touch turns to MOULD. I feel sorry for the passengers, But it was their choice to go by Roadlink thinking it safer than minibus taxis with worn tyres. ALL busses and Taxis should have Governors installed by law, preventing them from doing more than 80Kph.

      Bratt - 2010-12-16 17:21

they never went to school remember?

      Zukisani - 2010-12-16 18:03

im sure they would have loved to travel by intercape o, greyhound or other buses but those buses are just too expensive for some of us, roadlink has always been a cheap option coming traveling to or frm gauteng, and the other option city to city ,well its first time first serve ,the last one gets roadlink unfortunately

      Bratt - 2010-12-17 07:56

Zukisani - Just because they are cheap does not mean they should get away with murder. Which lets be honest, this is. They have gotten away with this for too long. It's time to ask why?

  • goslow - 2010-12-16 21:54

the sa roud link anthem 'the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round....the people on the bus sing O sht no, O sht no, we are all going to die'

  • poweredbyink - 2010-12-17 06:09

Last week i was amased to see a double decker road link bus come screaming past me,at over 120 km an hour, coming down Key Ridge. The drivers think they are driving taxi's.On numerous times ive tried to report them, but the staff at Roadlink make it very difficult follow the right channels.

  • Heinster - 2010-12-17 09:27

SA Roadlink should have closed down a long time ago already. They owners of Roadlink have ties to government. The buses are not road worthy and the drivers are underpaid. They are paid for the amount of driving they do and they have the choice of driving as much as they want. So you will always get the driver chasing bucks even when he is tired. Greyhound, Translux etc's drivers have no choice but to change drivers and regular intervals thats why one rarely hears of incidents involving them. Roadlink is a coffin on wheels and I won't even let my domestic use them - and especially during this period - they are all about the money.

      Ozz - 2010-12-17 10:02

Maybe we should all start a petition to close down SA Roadlink for the sake of human lives!

      Mishka - 2010-12-17 10:22

      @Ozz, completely agree, absolutely.

  • emmamimie - 2010-12-17 10:21

Its about time the transport Minister made a law that we have qualified drivers for our buses, trucks and taxi's. Like the airways, they have many lives in their hands. Our truck drivers are the most dagerous in this country, no one seems to care anymore its just a job at the end of the day.

  • Thulani - 2010-12-17 11:10

Waiting for Basie Du Toit, he will probably suggest that Malema and Jacob Zuma has something to do with Road Link!!

  • Gail Joyce - 2011-08-18 19:23

How many more innocent people have to lose their lives before Roadlink is closed down?

  • Abdul - 2012-05-16 12:25
