Johannesburg - A woman died and six others, including an eight-year-old girl and one-year-old baby, were seriously injured on Sunday when a car overturned on the N2 in the Mandini area, KwaZulu-Natal emergency medical services (EMS) said.

"KZN EMS paramedics responded to the crash, which reportedly involved a car which had overturned," spokesperson Robert McKenzie said in a statement.

"All of the patients were female. Sadly one lady has been killed in the crash and the surviving patients had all sustained serious injuries."

The patients were stabilised by paramedics from several ambulance services, including KwaZulu-Natal EMS, before being transported to hospital for treatment.

Police were investigating the cause of the accident.
