Durban - A woman was killed and another was seriously injured when a minibus taxi hit them while they were waiting for a bus near Port Shepstone, police said on Monday.

Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said the accident took place late on Sunday afternoon while the women were waiting for a bus on the road from Izingolweni to Port Edward.

A minibus taxi was travelling along Port Edward Road when the driver allegedly lost control and the vehicle collided into two females who were standing at the bus stop, he said.

Ezinqoleni police were investigating a case of culpable homicide and one of reckless or negligent driving.

No arrests had been made by late on Monday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said one of the women, believed to be 28-years-old, died on the scene.

The other woman was taken to Port Shepstone Provincial Hospital where she was in a serious condition.
