Pietermaritzburg - A woman narrowly escaped with her life
when a truck ploughed through a house in Pietermaritzburg early on Friday
morning, emergency services said.
"The truck was idling on the side of the road while the
driver went to a nearby shopping complex to draw money," police
spokesperson Joey Jeevan told News24.
The brakes of the truck dislodged and it went downhill,
crashing into the house.
"The truck almost went through the whole house," ER24
spokesperson Derrick Banks told News24. The kitchen and dining room were
destroyed, with the truck coming to a stop in the bedroom.
The owners of the house are said to be in Cape Town, and a 20-year
old female is looking after the house while they are away.
She saw the oncoming truck and ran into another room.
She was taken to hospital privately before emergency
services got to the scene.
A reckless and negligent driving case will be opened.
