Johannesburg - A Johannesburg woman reportedly nearly choked on a piece of latex in her Woolworths coleslaw.
Yvonne Esterhuyzen and her daughter, Antoinette Richardson, were sitting in front of the television on Wednesday night, tucking into the salads which Richardson had bought at the Woolworths in Mondeor, in the south of Johannesburg, the previous day (on Tuesday).
The next moment a panicked Esterhuyzen apparently told Richardson there was something stuck in her throat.
Richardson rushed over to her mother and removed a piece of latex, which looked like the finger part of a glove, from her mother's mouth.
"It was already halfway down her throat."
According to Richardson, Esterhuyzen then became so nauseated that she vomited.
"There could have been germs in there," said Esterhuyzen on Thursday afternoon, before Woolworths personnel were to fetch the piece of latex.
According to a statement by Woolworths' media office, they are concerned about Richardson's "regrettable experience".
"Woolworths is waiting for delivery of the foreign object. Our own experts are currently investigating the supplier's facilities as well as other relevant premises."
The food chain's suppliers have to comply with certain health and quality standards and he hopes the investigation will be concluded soon.
