Woman gets 25yrs for husband's murder
Mbombela - A former schoolteacher has been jailed for 25 years by the Middelburg Circuit of the North Gauteng High Court for killing her husband, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.
The court sentenced Adelaide Hlongwane, 46, on Tuesday, Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Hlathi said.
"She hired five men to kill her husband and businessman, Solomon Hlongwane, in December 2007," he said.
Solomon's beaten body was found lying outside his shop in Doornkop near Middelburg.
"He had been severely assaulted before his tongue was ripped off," Hlathi said.
The motive for the crime was not known.
The five co-accused, who were also sentenced on Tuesday, were arrested a week after the discovery of the body.
Three of the hitmen were each jailed for 30 years. They are Samuel Madimetsa, Stanley Magoba and Adelaide's Malawian lover, Abdul Khandazi.
Abram Shongwe and Michael Mohlala were jailed for eight and two years respectively for their part in the murder.
