Woman held for boyfriend's murder

2011-12-24 21:18
Mahikeng - A woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death in Ventersdorp in the early hours of Saturday morning, said North West police.

Warrant Officer Sam Tselanyane said the 22-year-old woman and her boyfriend, a 36-year-old policeman, allegedly arrived at their home in Tshing around 03:30.

They had visited the boyfriend's aunt where they had been drinking.

A fight ensued, with the woman reportedly stabbing the boyfriend in the left arm with a broken bottle and then fleeing on foot.

The boyfriend attempted to follow her but fell shortly after leaving the house due to blood loss.

Tselanyane said the woman returned to find the boyfriend in a pool of blood. She was assisted by a friend to carry the man inside believing he was just injured.

Neighbours informed police about the incident who arrived and declared the man dead, he said.

A broken bottleneck was recovered from the couple's bedroom lying in a pool of blood. The woman was expected to appear in the Ventersdorp Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of murder.
