Woman held for killing 'rapist'

Johannesburg - A 24-year-old woman was arrested in Virginia, Welkom for the murder of a man she claims had tried to rape her, Free State police said on Sunday.

"She said she was walking home from a shebeen on Saturday morning when a 25-year-old man tried to rape her. She then took out her knife and stabbed him on the left side of the chest," Sergeant Malebo Khosana said.

The man died on the scene and was taken to the Virginia mortuary while the woman was arrested and charged with murder.

She was expected to appear in the Virginia Magistrate's Court soon.
