Woman killed in Free State stampede

2012-03-13 07:26

Bloemfontein - A woman was killed in a stampede during a riot in Fouriesburg, near the Lesotho border, on Monday night, paramedics said.

The woman was apparently part of a large crowd which had looted several shops owned by foreigners in the eastern Free State town, Netcare911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

It was believed the woman lost her footing and was trampled by the crowd.

She died before paramedics arrived on the scene, Wicks said.

Police were not able to immediately confirm the death or details of the looting.

So she gets killed while looting and stealing, but she is now portrayed as the victim?

      cheyna.stewart - 2012-03-13 11:01

    ''Caught in the act''

      Cpo - 2012-03-13 08:40

@jaap.kotze 'Caught in the act' as comment shows that you not human, a life is lost for haven sake>who is getting caught when a life is lost, serioulsy you do not sound sane, this is typical socio economic conditions prevailing in mostly townships, that people find themselves in, lack of education, unemployment etc. Lets not dance over a dead body, lets address problems facing people and communities>>>>

      Peter - 2012-03-13 08:43

CPO ---- wake up!! This has bugger-all to do with any of the PC things you list. She is (sorry, was) a criminal, period!

      Michelle - 2012-03-13 08:56

CPO - her death was caused by her own actions which were illegal to boot. She did not have to take part in this and if she hadn't been killed would be at home now enjoying her spoils at the expense of someone else's hard work

      Cpo - 2012-03-13 09:27

You'd really be a fool to believe everything that is reported in News24(Police were not able to immediately confirm the death or details of the looting),we haven't even got a confirmation from the police&yet have concluded that she is a criminal, for the loss of this life how many more are going to suffer, her children, its going to be a continuous wagon wheel of poverty. For all I know most of the people that are falling victims to these protests are convinced that it going to be a peacefull protest about service delivery, but if anything goes wrong, there is nothing one could do to change that,if she had died with 10kg rice in her hands then I would've been convinced> C'mon people lets be real=understand the background>

      Schmee - 2012-03-13 10:52

CPO unfortunately it is highly likely that it was caused by xenaphobia which has been brewing in that area for some time now. Stealing because you are poor is a very poor excuse. Even poor people have better morals than that. People are very seldom satisfied by the material goods they have. If a person with low morals has enough food on the table and no tv then they will still steal the tv and say it's because they are too poor to afford one.

      cheyna.stewart - 2012-03-13 11:04

cpo go tell your government that, go tell the fat cats like julius malema. what about those people whose shops were looted??? thats their lives and income but did she care no she carried on looting. and why attack fellow south africans because of poor service delivery, go to the government for goodness sake. the stupid woman deserved what she got, even if there were 10 more that were trampled i would say the same!!!!!! that is not the way to get solutions by robbingand destroying and being violent!!!!

  • nasheenar - 2012-03-13 07:36

Sad but considering the fact she was part of a crowd being merciless to other human beings, Id say she got what she deserved.

CPO TEL THE GOV. TO START ADDRESSING THE EDUCATION SYSTEM AND LIVING CONDITIONS DONT YOU THINK IT IS HIGH TIME FOR THEM TO DO THAT

      Schmee - 2012-03-13 11:02

Okay let me repeat what I said earlier too. Unfortunately it is highly likely that it was caused by xenaphobia which has been brewing in that area for some time now. Stealing because you are poor is a very poor excuse. Even poor people have better morals than that. People are very seldom satisfied by the material goods they have. • Hettie - 2012-03-13 09:56

AINT IT FUNNY YOU ALWAYS RAMPAGE AND LOOT IF YOU DONT GET ANYWHERE ON YOUR OWN INNOVATION. SOMEBODY ELSE COME AND DECIDE TO DO SOMETHING TO IMPROVE HIS OR HER OWN LIVE WITHOUT HOLDING THE HAND OUT TO GOV. FOR MONEY AND FOOD THEN THEIR LITTLE SHOPS ARE LOOTED AND BURNED. THEN EVERYBODY IN GOV. CRIES ABOUT XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS ON IMMAGRANTS AND FOREIGNERS AND THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF OUR CONSTITUTION WHILE EVERYBODY TURNS A BLIND EYE TO THE SAME XENOPHOBIC ACTIONS THAT TAKE PLACE AGAINST ALL SOUTH AFRICANS INTOLERENCE AGAINS THE WHITE RACE TO SUCH A EXTEND THAT THEY WANT TO CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION TO SUIT THEMSELVES BUT THEY CRY WOLF IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS TO FOREIGNERS,WHILE TRUE SOUTH AFRICANS ARE NOT EVEN WELCOME IN THE LAND. SHAME ON YOU DANCING LOOTING AND KILLING WILL NOT CHANGE A DAMN THING IN THIS COUNTRY IF YOU DONT STAND UP AND TAKE HANDS AND TRY TO WORK FOR A LIVING INSTEAD OF SCREAMING FOWL.

  • Henning - 2012-03-13 10:35
