Woman on the run with girl, 2

2012-07-09 13:26

Johannesburg - A woman was still on the run on Monday with a 2-year-old girl after SMSes demanding cash were sent to the toddler's family, police said.

Asanda Twala had been missing for the past two weeks since a family friend took the child to shops near the family home in Jeppestown, Johannesburg.

"We are still on the hunt for the female suspect who was last seen with the child," said Warrant Officer Richard Munyai.

"Both their pictures are being circulated and information we have so far is that she might be hiding somewhere in the Vaal."

Munyai said the suspect is known as Thuli but her real name is Talita Nkhanzi.

The family received SMSes a few days after Asanda disappeared, said Munyai.

"First the family received a call that the suspect was dead, then followed a text message that said the family was being watched and that they should not contact police, or else Asanda dies."

A demand for R15 000 in cash was received a week later. No further messages were received early om Monday, said Munyai.

"We are entering a third week since her disappearance."

Anyone with information can contact the investigation officer, Detective Constable Mlamleli Batakati on 011 403 3413 or 071 836 5268.

Ah, the devil's advocate, I have no doubt that you are right, but this just has a certain ring to it.

@squeegee.pilot - Whatever the outcome is, I am sure you will still hold on to your stereotyppical views and comment as such...?

So the police cannot track the cell phone from which the sms has been sent? Probably a fake RICA sim card. Thanks for posting a pic of the girl.....

" since a family friend took the child to shops " No doubt..." Friends no more. " This is callous & cruel. Hope the little one is found, alive & well, soon !

Phew - what a vicious bunch we SA citizins are! No wonder we are such a violent country, if this is the way we react! Remember -'A soft answer turneth away wrath, while grievous ones stir up anger!'

One has to wonder at the mind of someone who'd throw away their credibility for R15000. I do hope that tiny tot is safe.

Put the damn pictures up.Lets us the readers distribute them (for free no less) on our facebook.Track the damn cellphone!!! How on earth do you not do that? flipping cavemen in SAPS.if this was usa, they would've been tracked down and brought to justice and the child returned. Are we really living in the stone age? so frustrating! cant bare to imagine what the family must be going through =/

      devon.riley.52 - 2012-07-09 15:06

I can't help but feel that it is SAPS incompetence at its best involved here in this case. They could have tracked the cellphone and the best they could come up with is, that they think the suspect is somewhere in the Vaal.

there are more sick people out there than we think...to put a family through hardship for R15000.00 that could have been borrowed somewhere if the need was so great, why on earth put a little person through hell for the sake of money...she needs to be severely dealt with when caught... no mercy for this evil woman...hope the little one is cared for in the meantime...poor little thing..:(
