Johannesburg – A Mpumalanga police spokesperson said a woman had been arrested in Balfour on Friday for allegedly pouring boiling water over her boyfriend.

Spokesperson Leonard Hlathi said the attack had occurred in the early hours of Friday while the man was asleep.

He had just arrived at their home after working a night shift.

Police arrested the woman at the scene a short while later and the man was admitted to hospital with serious burns.

"At this stage we do not know the motive for the crime," said Hlathi.

The 31-year-old woman was expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate's Court on Monday.
