Woman tracked down, killed by stalker ex

2011-05-04 08:48

Johannesburg - A 25-year-old woman was hit in the face with a knuckle-duster and then stabbed to death with a pocket knife, allegedly by her stalker ex-boyfriend who had tracked her down to a security complex in Fourways, north of Johannesburg, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

Andrea Venter, an auditor from Rustenburg, moved to Johannesburg three months ago to get away from her 30-year-old ex-boyfriend, against whom she had obtained an interdict in 2008, her brother, Kobus Venter, told Beeld.

But the former boyfriend phoned no fewer than 33 auditing firms in Johannesburg to find her, and once he did, he started phoning her repeatedly at her office, said her mother, Annatjie Venter.

She said her daughter told her: "You don't know how dangerous he is."

On Monday, the man went to the Sibaya Sands security complex in Fourways where he broke her nose by hitting her with a knuckle-duster.

She tried to run away but he followed her and allegedly stabbed her to death in front of a security guard at the entrance of the complex.

He then tried to cut his own throat.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou told Beeld the man was expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court once he had recovered from his injury.

      DarkWhite - 2011-05-04 14:01

@Steen aka Steenbokdrol He's a murderer.. not a robber who ads to his hit list by raping and then murder. Black or white... it's still a crime! You need to see the optometrist to check what color you see things... and let me guess... you are color blind? Only see in black!

      Popit - 2011-05-04 15:40

Steen - you obviously have some racist issues. This is not race related - you damn idiot. Get a life.

      nick - 2011-05-05 10:28

I've followed 'steen' on many blogs...... he will always say something controversial to get the reaction, and guess what.... you fall into his trap time and time again ! Remember his pseudonym and don't respond in future !

  • Charles Kane - 2011-05-04 09:00

Truly horrible story. I always wonder how people like this guy ever get to be anyone's "boyfriend" in the 1st place.

      63Starlight - 2011-05-04 09:19

@Charles Kane. Its very simple really. For the first 6 months, they are sweet, kind and romantic. Then once they have you hooked, slowly and very cleverly they start isolating you. Once they have you totally isolated, the abuse starts. When you try to leave, they threaten you or your family with harm. If you do get away, you are in constant danger of them finding you and harming you. No restraining order works and the police won't do anything because nothing has been done to you physically. The chilling words and should be an alarm bell are "The only way you will ever leave me is in a body bag."

      Flee - 2011-05-04 09:37

HHmmm Charles, like starlight says, unfortunately most of these people, both men and women alike are the most caring loving wonderful persons... for a while... Just long enough to get the person hooked.. Then it starts gradually with little verbal quips, then small physical gestures, then verbal and physical abuse and all round psychological degradation... These people are also so manipulative, that most family members think they are the be all and end all, and would ask why the abused person wants to leave.. Evil evil obsessions..

      Frangipani - 2011-05-04 09:44

You ought to read more books....

      Pierre - 2011-05-04 09:58

Dude, I am sorry to say it, but girls like "bad boys". They always make the mistake of thinking that the douchebags are basically harmless and can be changed.

      Flee - 2011-05-04 10:34

Pierre... I have seen cases where the Women are the abusers and obsessed.. Not just men... Had an acquaintance who was a battered man... He never admitted it, but the blue eyes and her jealous rage was enough to give an idea of the ordeal he was going through.. Horrible...

      Krush - 2011-05-04 13:51

@Pierre, stalkers are usually the "nice guys" not the "bad boys." Sounds to me like you didnt get the girl you wanted.

      Pierre - 2011-05-04 16:52

Hehe no Krush dude, I have got the girl of my dreams. But I have met quite a lot of girls in my time who have fallen for d**kheads who treat them badly. Those same girls treat nice guys badly in turn. Circle of Life, I guess.

  • Dan - 2011-05-04 09:03

Sick bastard. They should have left him and allowed him to bleed to death. Real tragic story. Why do some men get so obsessed with their girlfriends/ex-girlfriends?

      Nick - 2011-05-04 09:13

      Women do it too.

      Howzitekse - 2011-05-04 19:01

People become obsessed with what they cannot have. This obsession becomes dangerous when a person who has low self esteem experiences feelings of rejection. All their anger about their feelings of inferiority are then focussed on the object of their obsession, and "love" turns to into this kind of tradgedy.

  • alexander pfoss - 2011-05-04 09:05

You should break his nose with a knuckle buster and then stab him, put him in hospital and wait until he recovers and do it again and again until he dies of old age.... if thats the way the government would handle such cases...these cases would be few and far in between.

      Gnezer - 2011-05-04 16:18

what i like about your comment is that it shows that no matter who commits the crime (black or white), the person should be punished end of story. Just a pity it doesnt always happen and justice seems to go array when race is involved.

OMW, what a beautiful, young lady...what a sick, demented man. Violence against woman and children is really getting out of hand in SA, something drastic needs to be done! Prayers to her family, RIP.

      Nick - 2011-05-04 10:11

Violence against women and children? Violence itself is the issue. VIolence is violence, regardless of the recipient. Preaching against violence against women and children is saying it's okay to be violent towards men. Violence itself needs to be addressed!

  • Suko Dan - 2011-05-04 09:13

and I bet you he looks like a decent guy that u won't expect it from, typical, good looks, nice athletic body, but inside very aggressive and shot tempered. A person will never know until you really get involved with someone, NOT GOOD!!!!

  • Rockey - 2011-05-04 09:14

Very sad. But, another sad aspect is that throughout the world, there are just so many examples where restriction orders / restraining orders are just ineffective, due to fact that it is such a difficult concept to enforce. Perhaps a few days in a detention center, once receiving a restriction order would make an individual understand that the law needs to be taken seriously. Of course there will always be the exceptions to the rule, and the practicalities considered too impractical.

  • Nick - 2011-05-04 09:16

      Nick - 2011-05-04 09:32

I thought about that too. Why did he nt do anything? Or was he too far away? Questions need to be asked!

      Were there any other witnesses?

      Nick - 2011-05-04 10:27

The Security guard???? He had a knuckle duster that He bashed Her with and a knife????? I think the guard may have been even more terrified. But the question remains why did He not help Her and try to stop Him as is supposed to be a "trained gaurd"

"She tried to run away but he followed her and allegedly stabbed her to death in front of a security guard at the entrance of the complex." More proof that security companies are nothing but a money making scheme in this lawless country.... My heartfelt condolences to the family

      ALCAB - 2011-05-04 10:18

Do you know what really happened to come to that conclusion ?

      Totman - 2011-05-04 11:40

@ Darwinian. There is a difference between security complex and access control complex. This is most probably an access complex. When some-one enter without permission a response team gets contacted. At a security complex the guards can react directly. They are supposed to be a higher level/grade of guard and most are armed.[you pay extra] They look the same and pretend to be the same, but it is the body corp...that needs to decide , pay the higher fee and see that it is what they pay for. We/they tend to bulls...our/themselves for visual acceptance. Ask your insurance company. They are all supposed to be listed. - 2011-05-04 13:03

Tarri-Dee Botes - 1 hour ago Report comment I also live in the complex... i feel terrible with this whole incident. Im 2 flats below he

  • Podgette - 2011-05-04 09:46

"...stabbed her to death in front of a security guard at the entrance of the complex" WTF?? That security guard should be charged with bloody murder too - what is he paid to for? This kind of thing makes me so angry!

      Lee - 2011-05-04 10:16

I know this complex and the security is handled off site, so camera's everywhere. The security call the tactical team as soon as he first hit her but they were to late on there arrival. This is info from a friend who lives in the complex, heard about it a few hours after it happened. The guards did all they could in this case!!!

      Podgette - 2011-05-04 10:36

Thanks Lee, apology to the security guard then, I shouldn't have jumped to the wrong conclusion. He/she must be seriously traumatised - not nice.

Stalking is a criminal offence in the UK, Canada, Australia and the United States and needs to be legislated as such in this country as well. A Domestic Protection Order is not going to stop a bullet or other acts of violence.

  • RuthK - 2011-05-04 09:55

Very sad! But also infuriating that these supposed SECURE complexes are nothing more than lip talk. A security guard in SA is completely ineffectual. How was the boyfriend so easily allowed access!

      steve.dupreez - 2011-05-04 10:17

RuthK - have you ever lived in a security complex?? The occupant of a unit needs to give access to a visitor. Get real and get educated - yours is really a redundant and stupid comment.

      ALCAB - 2011-05-04 10:21

She had to buzz him in.

      RuthK - 2011-05-04 14:12

@steve.dupreez Yes, I have lived in "secure complexes". In the first one we were burgled (and our unit was second from the gae where security was). In the second we were cleaned out. My husband was chairman of the body corporate, and we received numerous complaints from people who noted that security would wave some people in, particularly in "peak hours". We now live (8years already) on a large property with laser beams, 7 dogs, ADT and firearms, and have never had any problems. Our laser beams work far more effectively than any patrolling guard could. Most security guards are absolutely incapable of doing anything to defend the properties anyway. So yes, I actually have lived on one, and have seen first hand where people get into complexes without signing in properly. Especially if he was on foot, he could have easily slipped past. Also, it all happened in front of the security guard. Why did he not jump in to wrestle the man, defend her etc?? Because security is nothing more than lip-service. It was not security, it was "Access control", and it failed.

      DeonL - 2011-05-05 10:35

It happened outside or at the entrance and probably happened within a few seconds. He did not have access.

  • Buffel - 2011-05-04 10:09

my fiance is in a similar case to this, she just never dated the plonker but he has a opsetion with her since she was 13yrs old! she is 22now it stops and go's away for a while then comes back with threats etc! we have been in and out of court but the justice system says he has not done anything wrong in harming her physically! he is mental the only way he will stop is if she is dead! he said if he cant be with her nobody can! we have protection orders we have had him locked up but he gets released the minute he applies for bail! we living in fear because of this freak! i can do something about it bit my fiance keeps telling me to leave it, because in the end if i do something i will probably end up in prison thats how the system of protection works in south africa! the bad will always be protected before the harmless! who protects us? we have to cover our own tracks because our SAPS wont! the law is beautiful for the accused! This girl Andrea Venter was trying to get away from this freak by moving away because our cops probably told her he wont harm you! and when he does like it has, he gets his revenge and our cops yet lose another battle that could have been stopped if they did there job like they should have! our cops need to step up and i believe there are many more cases out there like this that can be stopped! these guys have serious problems and they wont stop until a life has been taken!

A pretty lady with a good job in the prime of her life has to literally become a fugutive because an interdict offers her no protection unless he physically harms her? My heart goes out to her family. 95% of people who commit these deeds are males, what is it that possesses a man to do this? Can't he accept that he has lost control over someone?
