Woman under house arrest for shoe attack
Johannesburg - A woman was placed under house arrest by a Pretoria court for assaulting another woman with a high-heeled shoe, according to a report on Friday.
Meryl Lotriet, 23, attacked Nelly Dean, 41, in the bathroom of a Pretoria night club in August 2010, in a fight over a missing bracelet.
Lotriet squirted pepperspray in her face and then assaulted her with the shoe, Beeld newspaper reported.
According to Dean's hospital report, she had deep cuts on her chest and abdomen, one of which was 8cm long.
The Pretoria District Court found her guilty of assault with intent to cause serious bodily harm and sentenced her to 18 months of house arrest, and two years of correctional supervision.
Magistrate Mariette Louw also sentenced Lotriet to a year in prison, suspended for five years, and told her to do 16 hours of community service a month, for the next two years.
She was also ordered to pay a quarter of her R4 000 monthly salary to Dean until she had paid a total of R25 000, to compensate for the loss of income Dean suffered while she was recovering from her injuries.
