Johannesburg - Human remains, believed to be those of a young woman, were unearthed from a shallow grave at a dumping site in Nigel on Monday, East Rand police reported.
Superintendent Andy Pieke said that police, acting on a tip-off, went to the site behind Alra Park High School.
A skull and pieces of skeleton were found in a shallow grave.
Police forensic experts believed the remains belonged to a young woman.
Pieke said the remains were found about 40m away from a ventilation shaft where the decomposing body of an unidentified girl was recovered on October 23.
"The left foot and hand were missing," he said.
"Insignia usually associated with satanists was found near the body."
Police were investigating a possible link between the two cases, said Pieke.
Anyone with information that could help with the investigation should contact inspector Mario Deysel on 011 814 2260 or 083 619 4294.
