Bloemfontein - Two women were arrested when they were found in possession of stolen clothes worth R18 400 in central Welkom, Free State police said on Sunday.

Captain Stephen Thakeng said the women aged 28 and 36 were arrested when police found suspected stolen clothing worth R18 400 in the boot of their car on Friday.

"A lot of clothing was found inside the boot and self-made bags that were apparently used when they steal from clothing shops were also seized."

Thakeng said the women could not provide receipts for any of the clothes. He said the arrest came after a tip-off from members of the public who spotted a "suspicious car" with a Gauteng registration, driving around the central business district.

The women were apparently using a rented car.
