Bloemfontein - Free State police were on Monday investigating claims by two women that they had been held captive for three days and repeatedly raped by three men.

The two, aged 19 and 20, reported a case of rape and kidnapping to the Bethlehem police station after their alleged kidnappers left them next to road between Warden and Vrede, spokesperson Sergeant Majang Mosupa said.

They claimed they were hiking along the Tweeling Road to Bethlehem when a man in a VW Polo stopped to give them a lift.

"Near Danielsrus the driver of the Polo stopped and gave another hiker a lift."

While the Polo was stationary, a black BMW with tinted windows stopped behind them. The occupants of the BMW forced the women out of the Polo, blindfolded them and took them to an unknown place.

"They were apparently kept there and guarded by five men, of whom three raped them for three days."

Mosupa said the women were eventually taken from their holding place and left on the side of the road.
