Johannesburg - A man was crushed to death by hundreds of kilograms of maize after falling into a grain silo in Nussey in the Free State on Monday, paramedics said.
Netcare911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said the man had been inside the silo directing the maize into a feeder channel at the base.
According to reports he lost his footing and fell into the feeder.
Paramedics dug through the grain for three hours before they found his body, which was wedged into the feeder, Wicks said.
The man was declared dead at the scene.
