Worker loses leg after accident

2010-07-15 19:13
Johannesburg – A farm worker's leg had to be amputated on Thursday after he fell into a farm grinder in Trichardt, in Mpumalanga, paramedics said.

The man was working on the grinder when he slipped and both his legs were trapped inside the machine, said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson.

On their arrival at the scene, paramedics gave the man pain medication, while his colleagues tried to free his legs.

After being removed from the machine, the man was airlifted to a nearby hospital where his left leg was amputated.

His right leg would be treated.
