Johannesburg - The start of Cosatu's 25th birthday celebrations was delayed on Saturday at the Johannesburg Stadium.

Spokesperson Patrick Craven said the programme was delayed to allow people to get into the stadium.

President Jacob Zuma, secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi and the federation's leader Sidumo Dlamini were expected to address workers.

About 45 000 people were expected at the Johannesburg Stadium for the festival, scheduled to end on Sunday morning.

Craven said guests of honour included President Jacob Zuma, SACP secretary general, Blade Nzimande, Patrice Motsepe and union leaders.

The cream of SA artists, Jonas Gwangwa, Letta Mbulu, Vusi Mahlasela, Rebecca Malope, DJ Cleo, Big Nuz, Ntando and Ihhashi Elimhlophe were billed to perform at the event.
