Would-be robber never had bomb - cops

2012-03-05 19:07

Johannesburg - A man who was arrested empty-handed in Randburg after telling a bank teller he had a bomb in his bag, was carrying nothing more than papers, police said on Monday.

"There were only a few pieces of paper in the bag - no bomb," Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said.

Muthan said the 31-year-old man entered the Standard Bank at the Northgate Lifestyle Centre just before 16:00, holding a little black bag, and handed a note to the teller,

"The note said: 'I've got a bomb, give me all your cash'."

The teller gave the note to the branch manager who hit the silent alarm.

Police and shopping centre security responded and arrested the man.

Of course he did not have a bomb. Bombs are expensive. He first has to get the cash from the bank before he can buy a bomb.

Bad reporting "journo's". This happened at the Northgate Shopping Centre. All shops locked up during the scare and briefly opened after the chaos had died down. We chilled at the Milky Lane to "cool" down.

    WTF?

      maseratifittipaldi - 2012-03-05 21:22

Was There Fire? I don't think so, Gary. They reckon there was no bomb. Actually this "robber" is innocent. He had no bomb and he asked the teller nicely for the money. She could just have said "No". I am sure the gentleman would have respected the lady's feelings on this matter.
