Would-be robber never had bomb - cops
Johannesburg - A man who was arrested empty-handed in Randburg after telling a bank teller he had a bomb in his bag, was carrying nothing more than papers, police said on Monday.
"There were only a few pieces of paper in the bag - no bomb," Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said.
Muthan said the 31-year-old man entered the Standard Bank at the Northgate Lifestyle Centre just before 16:00, holding a little black bag, and handed a note to the teller,
"The note said: 'I've got a bomb, give me all your cash'."
The teller gave the note to the branch manager who hit the silent alarm.
Police and shopping centre security responded and arrested the man.
