Youth League wants ministers fired

2012-07-21 18:03

Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Ronald Lamola has slammed ministers for poor service delivery and called for their firing.

He was speaking at the ANCYL's Nelson Mandela lecture in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

Lamola singled out Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa, and Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga for criticism.

"Those who say it was not their responsibility to deliver books must also be fired," he said.

Lamola also criticised Molewa for not delivering water to Carolina.

He argued that ministers were quick to make claims that they would deliver but were quick to deflect blame when they came up short.

"When things go bad you say it is not your responsibility," said Lamola.

He criticised Mthethwa for having a security fence built around his house with public funds.

"You cannot have a person where they built a security fence around his house and he does not know... how he gets in and out of his house," asked Lamola.

He said public officials who conduct misdeeds must be fired regardless of who they support in the ANC.

Ministers must be accountable for poor service delivery of their departments. Let them resign no excuses.

      martin.schoeman.33 - 2012-07-21 18:53

Amos, why in Gods name do you not reflect this during voting? Why do you not use that oppertunity to let them know that?

      liana.loots - 2012-07-21 19:02

amos, you are living in a dream world, or rather, in the shadow of the flag

      Henk - 2012-07-21 19:10

But next election you are still going to vote for them. Pathetic!

      Henk - 2012-07-21 20:16

BArefoot with an ANC flag as an Avatar......wtf!

      henk63 - 2012-07-22 09:23

    Good comment by Mr lamola

      devon.riley.52 - 2012-07-21 21:03

Yeah well agree with the ANCYL on this one, but the problem is for this only one good comment they have made, they made 1000's of bad ones.

      henk63 - 2012-07-22 09:25

@Margie, his comment was a political one, trying to score points with JZ's enemies. This one obsevation does not mean he is now on the same page as us.

  • JamesMWood - 2012-07-21 18:17

and what exactly, if someone out there could remind me, has the ANCYL done recently to the betterment of the youth of todays society. They simplpy ramble on about nationalisation, this that and the other yet fail to do anything (and I mean anything) constructive. How about doing something to help, didn't see any articles headed "ANCYL champions the day by helping with delivering much needed school books" or "ANCYL helps out by building temporary shelters for thos affected by storms", I could go on but I really don't feel like giving them too much criticism.

      liana.loots - 2012-07-21 19:16

mfundu, that healine should read...afrikaner run away from home of the aged. the ancyl cannot even run their own league !!! tsotsibaby don't get derogatory, play nice

      sharon.a.marks.9 - 2012-07-22 09:33

@ mfundo - they helped ou for on hour, the first time ever, much like your chicken, scratching here and scratching there to impress idiots like you

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-07-22 12:04

Mfundo, you know the ANCYL can do so much. Where are they now that so many shacks are half way under water?. Are they out there helping the people?. I have never come across an ANCYL member prepared to roll up the sleeves and help. All empty talk and that's that.

  • amos.magezi - 2012-07-21 18:19

Gaan soek jou heenkome op DRUM of iets, by jou soort.

      liana.loots - 2012-07-21 19:05

'You cannot have a person where they built a security fence around his house and he does not know... how he gets in and out of his house', asked Lamola. Hahahahahaha that's quite funny actually!

      martin.schoeman.33 - 2012-07-21 19:00

I honestly don't get that one????

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-07-21 19:54

@Martin a minister built a very expensive wall around his house with taxpayer money and claimed to not know how it was funded when confronted.

      martin.schoeman.33 - 2012-07-21 21:03

Thanks JohncarlosBiza: Clearly missed that one!

  • mandla.ngubane - 2012-07-21 18:35

Yah, Nathi Mthethwa i agree, he is useless. Hilarious that he clearly wears glasses to look more intelligent, there's nothing wrong with his eyes; the glass in it is normal see-through glass. That is how he tries to come over as being competent: by designer suits and fake glasses.

I agree with Lamola \you cannot have a person where they built a security fence around his house and he does not know. . .how he gets in and out of his house\. well done Lamola.u are making sense broer. Another one is saying it is not her responsibility to deliver books

  • Gill McCain - 2012-07-21 18:59

There could be a problem if those non-performing ministers were all sacked. After all there needs to be some one steering the ship and as there is not one well run ministers, barring the tax collectors of course, we could find the country without a cabinet at all. On second thoughts we would probably do better without the input of any politicians - we couldn't do much worse. Power to the people !

  • luvo.luvos - 2012-07-21 18:59

If the government went on firing mode everytime the buggers messed up there won't be a single minister remaining!

      sanet.oelofse - 2012-07-21 19:04

And even with no ministers running the show, it cannot really be worse off, at least there will be no one to pillage the public coffers.

  • Erna - 2012-07-21 19:05

For once I fully agree with Lamola. Angie takes the credit when the matric results go up by a miniscule percentage but blatantly takes no responsibility for the current messes hn education.

  • sam.ntshangase - 2012-07-21 19:36

Dear Mr Lamola As far as I understand about the lecture , we cannt have a lecture for Dr Mandela yet you present a completely different subject , if a lecture is for Maths cannt be substituted by myths. If I attended a lecture in Limpopo presented by Jacob Zuma , the lecture was mainly about Dr Mandela from the introduction till the end. Here with you called for the lecture on Dr Mandela yet you tell us about firing of Ministers, is this a proof in public why learners fail because you teach the irrelevant subjects. Anyway you nearly made a point but your point was made at a wrong platform and very selective when the Premier of Limp is a disgusting failure, for exhausting all the funds without deliverables. Can I urge you Mr lamola to be serious about your career, I understand you have a LLB degree compared to your colleague who failed Gr11, Im very concern about your qualifications being dragged down in the rubbish bin by yourself. Regards

      sisa.mtwana - 2012-07-21 21:04

@Sam we use Maths in all things in Life .Mandela spent 27years in jail ,that is maths right there. You've just used so much minutes to write your comment and that is maths. 3 minister that need to be sacked that is maths too. You putting your 2 lips together and shut up that might be maths too. But I guess I'not a Proffesor in ..........

  • Amanda - 2012-07-21 19:44

Dear Sam, you are technically correct regarding your criticism of Lamola's inappropriate speech - however he used the opportunity to get to the essence of just what is wrong within the ANC. Can't fault him on that one.

  • cindy.wrathex.ruthven - 2012-07-21 23:33

Well said and at the right time. Time to trim the dead old wood, screw shut the cookie jar and hold ministers accountable, now we are talking ! When the old wood has been trimmed, the younger educated and skilled generation must push to take key positions, especially in education. Education and practical skills are key to a South Africa that can employ its youth. How are we going to make money out of the Chinese wave heading towards Africa ? How can our youth exploit trade with China or Russia? We need a goal and vision, we must foresee where things are heading and get the skills to make the most of it. So Chinese or Russian language should become a third language choice in the curriculum for instance. If we don't act swiftly, the country is going to burn. People are fed-up (especially with unemployment), and not just in South Africa, but across the globe.

  • Karen Thebus-Botha - 2012-07-22 00:24

Why not fire the damn Youth League.. They're nothing but trouble for SA
