Youth dies after circumcision

King William's Town - A 19-year-old initiate was found dead by his older brother after a botched circumcision in the Quzini area near King William's Town, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

The two were together in a hut after being circumcised on Saturday, said Inspector Ernest Sigobe. When the elder brother could not wake him up, he informed their father, who alerted the police.

When the police arrived on the scene they took the brother to hospital, as he was also injured during his circumcision operation.

Two traditional surgeons were arrested and would appear in court on Monday, Sigobe said.
