Youth in Terre'Blanche murder trial named

2012-05-22 12:52

Ventersdorp - The name of the youth accused of killing Eugene Terre'Blanche was made public in the High Court sitting in Ventersdorp on Tuesday.

Patrick Ndlovu's trial had been held in camera thus far, but as he turned 18 in April he could be named.

Judge John Horn on Tuesday morning concluded his summary of the evidence given during the proceedings. Before handing down his judgment he would first evaluate whether the evidence and the witnesses were credible.

Outside the court, supporters of Ndlovu and Chris Mahlangu, both accused of killing the rightwing leader, danced and sang "Viva, Mahlangu, Viva" and "Dubul' iBhunu" (shoot the boer).

Some carried placards reading, "Down with the AWB", "Thank you, Mahlangu" and "Waar is jou onderbroek ET [Where are your underpants, ET?]", a reference to evidence presented during the trial that Terre'Blanche was found dead with his pants pulled down.

The two are accused of hacking and beating Terre'Blanche to death on his North West farm in April 2010.

Flags and banners

Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging members, clad in camouflage uniforms and sporting flags and banners, were outside the court. Some of their banners read: "AWB stood the test of time" and "Long live the AWB".

Members of the rightwing Gelofte Volk, an AWB splinter group, were also present. Leader Andre Visagie said he had mixed feelings about what to expect.

Police and police vans lined the streets surrounding the court.

Heavily armed officers stopped family members and media from entering the court until the last minute. Local residents were warmly dressed to fight off the winter chill in the North West town.

Mahlangu and Ndlovu have pleaded not guilty to murder, housebreaking, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. Mahlangu claims he acted in self-defence. Ndlovu has denied involvement in the crime. Both have declined to testify.

"It is probably going to be a long judgment. So prepare yourselves for a long judgment," Horn told the State and the defence.

never was a ET supporter but this was premeditated murder in my eyes and the punishment must fit the crime, life sentences all round, and yes arrest those singing kill the boer it is against the law after all

      Henri - 2012-05-22 12:58

This is true, S.A. cannot let go the past and will forever be a divided nation.

      Thomas - 2012-05-22 13:07

we can now forget the past. ET is dead now and we can only now move on.

      Stille - 2012-05-22 13:14

I have to agree, the man was not well loved, but murder is murder, and i myself are guilty of retorting to the morons on here. Justice will be done, one way or the other

      JouMa - 2012-05-22 13:14

thomas only when every criminal is dead then maybe we can move on

There's so much racial tension in this country that even some of us that were beginning to see the short comings of the ruling party and contemplating voting other parties are beginning to get a sense that we will be bringing apartheid back if we do. With all this racial tension, it doesn't matter what the ANC does or doesn't do. I am not making a decision to be led by a white party. Whites in SA are too angry. I know there's a lot that ANC is not doing right but when I read the comments on this forum, it is clear that we're not fighting a political, but a racial battle. And guess what? This is what most black people feel at the moment, and we are in the majority. There we go: now we know what will be happening every time we vote, as long as we are a country devided on racial lines. Scarry!

      Nigel - 2012-05-22 14:12

@ ttshabalala: Are you in touch with "most black people"? Are you their elected spokesperson?

      Felix - 2012-05-22 14:12

@Tshabs, I see you are figuring out the anc's plan. Same one the NP used and it works brilliantly doesn't it.

      Karen - 2012-05-22 14:20

@ Thomas move on are you sure about that, the ANC cowards behind there colours, intimidating other parties, wanting to take everyone to court becoz people infringe their rights.. but the white man has the right to justice as well. Even though ET made his mistakes, he was never corrupted and stole from the poor man

      mphomirtam.motsepe - 2012-10-12 16:59

ET caused his own death, he could have long be murdered by the time he assaulted the poor petrol attendant and many others he assaulted and sodomised, Mahlangu rid SA of this terrible boer who was feared by many blacks in Ventersdorp and around Koster. He was a horrible man and claiming that SA was his moederland. Elke duiwel en hond het sy dag,and it takes guts for people like Mahlangu to have completed a job that many wanted to complete but could not. It is sad because he will die of AIDS contracted from ET\r\nThe sentebce was rather harsh but what can we say the presiding judge was a boer and I think Mahlangu,s lawyer must appeal for a lighter sentence

Procold2,\r\nI do not dream of being ET supporter at all. This murder was not premeditated. What about the rapes ,sodomy let alone drunkenness. ET knew how to lur his cows to his bedroom for rape\r\n Where was his wife anyway-sent out somewhere so that he can rape our brothers, poor woman-I think she never enjoyed her marriage to that cow\r\nI hate murder but ET lived long enough to harrass and assaults blacks in SA especially in Ventersdurp and around Koster my home town. I may sound cruel but that is true, and truth shall set us free\r\nTo Chris and his family I say cheer up, your son suffered more enough for this trial and needs your support. It takes guts for people like him to rid SA of such a horrible people. Elke hond het sy dag

      mphomirtam.motsepe - 2012-10-12 18:12

Pecold2,\r\nThis was not a premeditated murder ET brought this on himself. O ne a tlwaetse go sodomisa bantsho I think he enjoyed rectal sex than his wife,s sex. This time he got it and at full length\r\nIt takes guts to commit such murder but Chris being bottled up he did it in the nick of time\r\nIt is really sad because ET sentenced him to die of AIDS in a few years to come\r\nCongradulations baas ET for spreading AIDS in Ventersdorp and surrounding areas

Just a question to anyone who knows about law: He was only named now because he turned 18, why were the Waterkloof 4 all named immediately when they were also youths?

      John - 2012-05-22 13:09

never thought about that, but i think they were all over 18 when the trial commenced, might be wrong though

      Kevin - 2012-05-22 13:14

@ Procold2: Their names were all made public before the trial, but as I understand it this is not how the law works, minors' identities are protected, I hope someone can answer?

      Johan - 2012-05-22 13:19

Early in 2010 the ANC goverment decided it to be a good idea to protect the identity of any person under the age of 18 that were involved in any acts or alledged acts of any crime.2 weeks after this bill was passed in Parlement Eugene was murdered. The waterkloof 4 goes way back before then.Coincidense,I dont think so

      karen.jansevanrensburg - 2012-05-22 13:35

The government thought it is not a good idea for minors to be made public and that ruling only changed a day before they murdered ET so ja shows the fairness in SA

      Andre - 2012-05-22 13:48

Because although we are all equal is SA, some are deemed to be more equal than others!

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-22 13:51

@kevin, good question. thanks for the enlightenment Johan and Karen. I was totally clueless there.

      tshepo.ally - 2012-05-22 13:53

ag come one peeps. you think the legislature has time to base legislation on two black murderers? it's no coincidence. it is something that was contemplated a long time before the Waterkloof four. the legislation's aim is to protect minors, regardless of their skin colour. don't make this a race issue. ya, we're all racist but let's not be ridiculous now!!! nxaaa

      Marion - 2012-05-22 14:19

@KevinKing - wasn't the Child Protection Act changed after their arrest? Perhaps that is where the difference comes in. Just guessing.

  • Alana - 2012-05-22 13:08

Talk about being racist. White people are not the racist nation.

      Louis - 2012-05-22 13:47

JJ pull ur head out ur butt....

      JJ - 2012-05-22 13:58

      Tamaranui - 2012-05-22 14:27

      Alana.......You really are daft,

      mphomirtam.motsepe - 2012-10-12 18:01

White people are racists and they practise it in our own country. I understand the english when they are racist in Europe- I understand their fears not Afrikaner in Mzanzi= they are foreigners it it not their moederland as they claim. I may sound racist but I am not -I am just stating true facts of life

  • Rudi - 2012-05-22 13:10

A man(whatever kind of man) was murdered and they're singing about it. Lovely.

      Kevin - 2012-05-22 13:31

2009, Murdered Helen Lotter’s breasts were partially cut off and broken bottle-shards were inserted in her vagina and anus as part of the extensive torture she and her mother Alice (also murdered) had endured, this (understandably) caused deep anger amongst the Afrikaner/Boer community who formed a protest outside the court. The local ANC-mayor also organised a counter-protest (singing and chanting) with local ANC-cadres at the same time. Can anyone explain why the ANC love to defend murderers of innocent people?

      JJ - 2012-05-22 13:40

KevinKing, well what about the ANCWL who formed a protest outside the court on behalf of the victim of the Modimolle rape and torture? It's easy to paint a one sided picture...

      Nigel - 2012-05-22 13:57

@ KevinKing: "Can anyone explain why the ANC love to defend murderers of innocent people?" That's an easy one. Many ANC supporters have a natural affinity to destructive and anti social behaviour, and therefore with criminals. Just in their 'make-up', they really can't help it. And, the fact that they cannot generate their own thought process to figure things out for themselves also doesn't help, so they just go through the motions like moths attracted to the light. So sad.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-22 13:58

@Kevin,...JJ, thanks for that....and the protest against the culprits in the Chanelle Henning murder case. many blacks supported the protest and they were not DA.

      Tamaranui - 2012-05-22 14:27

This was No man , This was a Monster.

      Rudi - 2012-05-22 14:49

Ok he was a terrible person according to many. Hacking him to death while he was sleeping really doesn't appeal to me as heroic or justified. It's just plain sick. Also don't forget that he repented in prison and it seemed to be legit.

  • Stille - 2012-05-22 13:23

"Some carried placards reading, "Down with the AWB", "Thank you, Mahlangu" and "Waar is jou onderbroek ET [Where are your underpants, ET?]", a reference to evidence presented during the trial that Terre'Blanche was found dead with his pants pulled down" - Now i ask the enlightened people on here that slammed me for my comments. What will happen if a group of white people bearing derogatory plackards at say Mandela's funeral? Or any black politicain's funeral? Double standards and pure savagery is in the nature of the beast. Once again, you can sing your stupid little songs and wish me dead, but i am waiting for those of you brave\stupid enough to try.

      Moeketsi - 2012-05-22 13:35

Shame on you for comparing Mr Mandela to this ...whatever, after Mr Mandela did so much for this country.

      malusi - 2012-05-22 13:56

      Be brave and do it.

      Stille - 2012-05-22 14:12

So you three are actually proving my point. Its ok if its a white man that was killed, or a 7 year old white child that got taken into a backroom and shot like a dog. Its ok to be and act like an animal as long as its not one of your icons. Lol. No need for me to say anything further. Thanks.

      Tamaranui - 2012-05-22 14:29

If they did that when Madiba passes on ,, Then they have a very short future

  • Nigel - 2012-05-22 13:33

Name: Patrick Ndlovu. To the rest of us - Murdering Rat.

      veronicahmk - 2012-05-28 18:24

Our nation failed to protect us against Terre'blanche, so the guys defended themselves so i really don't understand why is this case going on. It was a self defence people and we all know how this man was, abusive and full of hatred, do u think those guys would hv killed him if he was a good man? Hell NO, so i plead to our Gorvenment(ANC)No man will kill for plesure.

  • Andre - 2012-05-22 13:46

I am a Boer and proud of it. You may even call me a Boer, but, if you say "kill the Boer", that is regarded as hate speech and incitement to commit murder. I want to know whether the chanters/singers have been arrested. If they haven't, I own myself the right to defend myself with everything at my disposal, because the police, on who I am relying, cannot!

      malusi - 2012-05-22 13:53

By all means defend yourself. Plz

This young man did nothing wrong as he was lurred to the nest by ET for rape and sodomy. His sentence is also harsh . Both these young men are victims rather than murderers. ET brought this on himself- he was usesd to do it but this time he met his match Chris was bottled up and he had to do een ding, he was forced by circumstances.\r\nWhere was auntie Liz - may be sent out so that ET,s mission could be accomplished Poor woman, it must have been horrible to live with such a man \r\nI hate murder especially the type on ET but he got was he deserved -Elke hond het sy dag
