Johannesburg - The man driving the car in which former president Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter was killed in a crash has reportedly applied for the charges against him to be dropped.
Sizwe Mankazana contended that the State had failed to produce evidence against him, The Star reported on Tuesday.
His lawyer Kenny Oldwage brought the application on Monday.
Mankazana has been charged with culpable homicide, driving under the influence of liquor, and reckless or negligent driving. He pleaded not guilty.
Mankazana was driving Zenani Mandela, 13, home in a Mercedes-Benz following the 2010 World Cup Concert at the Orlando Stadium on June 11.
The vehicle crashed into a steel barrier on the M1 in Johannesburg and the barrier penetrated the car. Zenani Mandela died on the scene.
