Zuma: Family helped pay for Nkandla upgrade

2012-10-11 13:43

Johannesburg - A large part of the renovation in President Jacob Zuma's homestead in Nkandla was paid for by his family, the president said on Thursday.

"When people see my house on the TV, they must be thinking that government has built this for me. No. A large part of that... has been done by the family. How then this was done, I would not want to judge," he told a Black Business Summit in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Zuma said he did not know the cost of the improvement of security features at his home.

"I think the ministers have given the answers and if people want to pursue that, they'll pursue it. I don't question the security measures that government takes in relation to presidents, vice-presidents, ministers or MEC. It is what is regulated somehow. They have their own way of assessing the situation," he said.

Cost

There has been a public outcry on the renovations of Zuma's house, which were reported to cost over R200m.

Zuma said he believed that because there was no supporting infrastructure in rural Nkandla, it would be more expensive to build security features there than in an urban area.

However, Zuma did not want to commit himself on the amount used to renovate his Nkandla private home.

"I would not want to comment or judge because these matters are handled by the ministers and the Auditor General. They know how the budgets are done, I can't make myself an expert on those ones," he said.

Paid for by family - this by the man who a few years ago was so broke that he had to borrow money from his friend Schaik, and now worth millions (billions) oh what it is to be a dictator in the here and now. You can BS some people some of the time but you can't BS them all the time, and at this moment in time you are full of it. Your lies are going to catch up with you one day.

You are hardly an expert on anything, Mr. President.

Wonder how much Verwoed and PW Botha spend on their houses, gues no white person minded at the time how much was used, as they say goes "whites are responsible". Things matter, many concerns and many suspicions by many white population when it comes to black man except for Thuli Madonsela or Lindiwe Mazibuko or Mampele Ramphele, because they strangely understand. But Zuma is not you ordinary black man, he just decimate everything he touches. Let them work hard for the money Msholozi, ensure you tax them, then do what you are famous for, just "destroy". Forgot that even my penny is there are squandered.

  • luke.slade - 2012-10-13 02:14

Riiiiiight....Msholozi 'doesn't know' about what is being done in his name in the same way that us White South Africans "didn't know" about the atrocities that were being committed under apartheid...It is easy to look the other way when you are the beneficiary of an unjust action
