Zuma: Farm attacks not racially motivated

2012-07-05 10:08

Johannesburg - Farm attacks should be viewed within the context of the country's high crime statistics, and not as racially motivated, President Jacob Zuma has told Beeld newspaper.

Many attacks took place on the farms of white commercial farmers, and had the appearance of being racially motivated, but this was not the case, Zuma told the newspaper in an interview on Tuesday.

He said that many murders took place in South Africa's townships, and these were not always reported in the media.

The government rejected farm attacks and would attend to farmers' concerns that the comprehensive rural safety plan was not getting off the ground.

Asked why farm murders were not being made a priority crime, Zuma said Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa had said in Parliament that farm attacks were just as much of a priority as any other crime.

The recent court case against the murderers of Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging leader Eugene Terreblanche had again shown that crime, rather than politics, was the driving factor behind the attacks, he said.

Praising the country's commercial farmers, Zuma said: "Wherever I go, established farmers tell me that they're prepared to act as mentors for emerging farmers."

All fair! How many black farmers and workers got murdered? Give as that stats! before shooting your mouth of again!

      Henk - 2012-07-05 10:20

If a 3000 thousand black people got murdered their would have been war. Just check the coverage that one dead black farmer got recently.

  • JoeFarmer - 2012-07-05 10:19

the search for a comrade who isn't a complete spear continues. report all murders then and let the voters in the townships see how well the anc governs

  • JohncarlosBiza - 2012-07-05 10:20

The intention might not be racism in many cases, but the wat they are carried out definitely smacks of deep hatred. There's no reason to shoot a 3 year old other than hatred

      poloyatonkim - 2012-07-05 10:56

NEWS FLASH: There was a 3 year old who got shot by robber in Khayelitsha.

Sounds like Zuma has hired a new spindoctor, with compliments IMF. Be prepared for a new kind of propaganda running up to elections.

  • Vaaldonkie - 2012-07-05 10:23

Is this supposed to make anyone feel better?

  • sidney.gilroy - 2012-07-05 10:23

So...you are admitting that violent crime is out of control in South Africa and your government and police force cannot control it ?

  • wilhelm.grobbelaar - 2012-07-05 10:23

not racially motivated. The government themselves spoke of a more aggresive land grab. Do they deny it now. Well its all over the news. Just another cover up. how pathetic.

  • cj.venter - 2012-07-05 10:27

over 300 white farmers murdered this year. go BS someone else.

      jman.man.71 - 2012-07-05 10:59

@ Pixie86 - you mean blacks brutally killed by whites? STFU.

      Tito - 2012-07-05 11:11

Pixie, your question should be how many blacks killed by whites.

      MefrouwPoefparra - 2012-07-05 11:12

The ratio of white farmers as an identified group being killed as compared to any other grouping is totally disproportionate. Black on white racism fueled and sanctioned by the black ANC government (and the president in particular with his singing of songs urging the killing of whites) definitely plays a huge role.

  • mirrorman.smith - 2012-07-05 10:30

They may appear to be just the same as any other crime. The difference is that these criminal are attacking the people that feed South Africa. Farms and farmers should be protected as National Assets and any attack on a farm should be viewed as sabotage. Just a thought

      MefrouwPoefparra - 2012-07-05 11:16

The violence used in farm attacks is totally disproportionate to "ordinary" crime. Lots of hate in those attacks, not just burglaries gone wrong. Racist killing is the main motive, stealing is secondary.

  • mariana.barry - 2012-07-05 10:30

"Farm attacks should be viewed within the context of the country's high crime statistics" AND YOU NEW AIRCRAFT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMY ??? nothing seems realistic in your world Pres, nothing

  • Ian - 2012-07-05 10:31

and you actually are the pink fairy godmother, phishing for votes again, I suppose 'Kill the boer' isnt racially motivated either, what a chop

  • larabiance - 2012-07-05 10:33

Like he knows. Thebe, if you're family is brutally murdered, nothing been stolen, how could you agree with Zuma? It's not because they are poor or hungry, it's hatred that drives these attacks

  • JHLR73 - 2012-07-05 10:33

And to add to that, when you break into someones home or farm in this case,as a criminal, do you rape, murder, torture, hack people, dissasemble people, stick brooms and glasses up their private parts and leave them to die? sick criminals we have in this country I would say..

  • pcesp - 2012-07-05 10:33

What a comment , but as he said "farm attacks were just as much of a priority as any other crime." he is right , corruption ,rape and theft is not a priority , then neither is all the other crimes , wait before I spill some drink on his body guard , I had better stop there before I insult his superior and way advanced intelect (sic)

  • dieter.muller.942145 - 2012-07-05 10:37

then why, mr turtle head, is it seen as a racially motivated attack if it is white on black?

  • James - 2012-07-05 10:38

JZ has decided, regardless of the evidence, that farm attacks are not racially motivated. Therefore, farm attacks are not racially motivated. It is wonderful to live in a country where there is a super educated, masterbrain who can make decisions for us, regardless of the facts. It makes one feel very humble.

  • mark.gulbis - 2012-07-05 10:41

Fair enough and possibly true; as the control of South Africa's wealth should not be a race issue.

  • deon.louw.7505 - 2012-07-05 10:44

Maybe not motivated but def. worsened by racism. It reminds me of the "Tikkoppe" that robbed us at our own small business in CT: "You white P***, where are your money?"

  • i.see.a.cupcake - 2012-07-05 10:45

yes and the song kill the farmer, kill the boer has no indirect effect! and your ANCYL calling for war to take the land back, also has nothing to do with this. When are you going to wake up.

  • alfred.neumann.142 - 2012-07-05 10:45

Sure Zoomah. Expecting us to believe that is like us expecting you to believe that apartheid wasn't racially motivated either. You aren't talking to your mindless minions who believe their ancestors will make them sick if they don't vote for you. Try harder, numbnuts.

  • TheyTookMyNickLaZynEko - 2012-07-05 10:46

but zuma makes racially motivated statements, just like any other racist. nothing he says matters to me anymore.

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2012-07-05 10:49

Mr. Zuma, saying something like that is really not very clever. Just for one minute think about why these farmers are being murdered. You have allowed JuJu to stand up and sing songs and then you have Lamola talking about grabbing the farmers land without compensation, you have your Union guys have their tickie's worth. To day that you dont believe these murders are racially motivated you had better think again. Like we have said many times before, your government has encouraged your people to live off government fodder, you have not taught them to get a good education and work their way up in the world as people do in all walks of life. You have made them dependant on the hand outstretched to them in return for a vote. Hence unruly, lazy people who are now wanting more than the hand can feed them. Thats why they believe is taking is there for them. Have we heard your government really come out and say much about these actions, Sorry I did'nt hear your reply. Thats my answer.

  • alta.esterhuysepotgieter - 2012-07-05 10:53

I see Pres Zuma admits that we have HIGH CRIME STATISTICS!!

      Tito - 2012-07-05 11:19

Just the other day he mentioned that crime is under control. The man's a chop.

  • devenjoey.theron - 2012-07-05 10:54

    fix it TODAY!

  • burtfred.brown - 2012-07-05 10:56

Yea right, Mr Zuma. And you and your party's election was not racially motivated either. Pull the other leg.

  • Tiyani - 2012-07-05 10:56

    Oh but spear is?

  • bashin.monyela - 2012-07-05 10:57

It think its monetary 1st then racial because money hungry criminals assume that all white farmers are rich, but it is more irresponsible for our president to say these kind of things.

  • Cassandra Eileen Olivier - 2012-07-05 10:59

You really except us to believe the lies that come of your mouth Mr Zuma? Of course they racially motivated! Malema has been feeding his sheep lies for more then a year! Telling them to go and kill the farmers!

  • piet.verdriet.37 - 2012-07-05 11:00

Farm attacks are part of the high crime rate, but there is no songs that are sung about killing anybody except the farmer and the boer. Is this not instigating killings on defenseless farmers?

  • Mike Peach Purchase - 2012-07-05 20:43

Does he expect us to believe a word he says i think my 11 year old would do a better job at running a country.

  • Gerald Jordaan - 2012-07-05 21:40

Zoomer you f*cking idiot..opinions are like assh*les...every one has one!! Your problem is you are one!!
