Zuma attending extraordinary SADC summit

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma will attend the
extraordinary SADC summit in Tanzania, the presidency said on Thursday.
"Extraordinary [Southern African Development
Community] SADC summits are called to consider urgent and pressing peace and
security matters that threaten the essence of regional co-operation and
integration, especially issues relating to regional peace and stability,"
said presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj.
The summit would be held from 7 to 8 December in Dar es
Salaam.
Maharaj said issues to be considered included the crisis
in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The summit was also expected to discuss the situations in
Madagascar and Zimbabwe.
South Africa would be expected to report on the
facilitation process in Zimbabwe, and Mozambique would report on the mediation
process in Madagascar.
Zuma would be accompanied by International Relations and
Co-operation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
