Zuma rape accuser wanted for campaign

2012-05-24 07:48

Johannesburg - The Azanian People's Organisation (Azapo) wants President Jacob Zuma's rape accuser to become the face of an anti-rape campaign, according to a report on Thursday.

"We need a face for the campaign. She took a risk... against one of the most powerful people in South Africa," Manku Noruka, the head of Azapo's women and gender affairs department, told The Star newspaper.

The woman, only ever identified as Khwezi, and the daughter of one of Zuma's friends, accused Zuma of rape, but he was acquitted in May 2006. She then left the country.

Azapo deputy national spokesperson Funani kaNtontela said Azapo would contact South Africa's embassy in the Netherlands to try and track her down.

Ntontela said he did not know if the woman would want to come home, but would call on Zuma to give her a guarantee of protection if she did.

"Ntontela said he did not know if the woman would want to come home, but would call on Zuma to give her a guarantee of protection if she did." - asking the rat to guard the cheese are we?

      Kala - 2012-05-24 08:24

Can you imagine the ANC and Cosatu protests against this atrocity to Zuma's dignity.

      Squeegee - 2012-05-24 08:56

This plan is clearly political and has nothing to do with an anti-rape campaign. This bunch of bozos will endanger this woman just to score points against Zuma.

      Rabble-Rouser - 2012-05-24 09:12

Leave the poor woman alone. She has a right to her privacy. Azapo only want to use her to pursue their own polical agenda. The whole sordid saga with Zuma was humiliating enough.

      George - 2012-05-24 09:17

      What's Azapo by the way?

      Dawood - 2012-05-24 11:32

Looks like the Azapo and DA rats have merged." Birds of a feather FOCK together."

      Thando - 2012-05-24 13:35

How many friends daughters has he shagged ? Jeez....

  • heiku.staude - 2012-05-24 08:04

Besides making her the face of the organisation is puzzling to say the least. You are either saying that the courts do not work and there is no reason to report anyone for rape because they will get away with it and become president or you are saying that false accusing somebody of rape is OK because its 'brave'

      mmenzisco - 2012-05-24 08:44

Many executives have been accused of raped. Sometimes some women used it to take a person down or to get ahead in the organization. It happens in both private and government organizations

      heiku.staude - 2012-05-24 10:40

I know that Yebo... that is my point. It's either one or the other. And neither is right.

  • zolisa.dlokovu - 2012-05-24 08:06

A very interesting view from Azanian people's organisation(AZAPO) I think this woman should indeed be the face of anti-rape campaign.I am not sure whether she will receive protection from our govt.

      Martin - 2012-05-24 08:52

i think it would be unwise, if a stupid painting can be destroyed imagine what will happen due to the inconvinience she caused jacob, and how his dignity was hurt, and his little ego...for her own sake she should not come back. they will kill her by unfortunate accident

  • Sango - 2012-05-24 08:12

why not leave the poor women alone.

      Themba - 2012-05-24 08:36

I agree. Imagine what Zuma's ANC illiterate hordes will do to her even if she was "guaranteed" protection

      Sango - 2012-05-24 08:54

does azapo still have support? maybe they trying to have a comeback. I am not a big zuma supporter but what they trying to do is cheap politics.

  • colette.vangerve - 2012-05-24 08:15

Use technology, no need for her to be in SA to do it - keep her save and away from Zuma and his supporters, the wheel turns, purr-fect timing.....

  • briana.scott - 2012-05-24 08:30

I think it is a fabulous idea. Maybe it will remind us about the person our president is. We are all so used to the atrocities that we eagerly move on and forget. So much so that a rapist is the president of our country.

      sabongam - 2012-05-24 13:37

Let me get this straight - Zuma is a rapist although the court acquitted him? Based on the evidence that was presented to him, Judge Willem van der Merwe ruled that the sex was consensual...And this is the same court that you would be happy with if a family member of yours, a brother maybe, would acquit if he was charged with rape...I'm not defending Mr. Zuma but objectivity is important lest we want to be blinded by our emotions and the way we despise somebody because of how we judge his or her character...I understand there's plenty of criticism and a huge outcry that the President is guilty of - e.g corruption and not doing his job well...So, based on that he should automatically be labelled a rapist when there's no evidence of that and it's merely based on what the woman accused him of...In other words if your husband or boyfriend is accused of rape, the judge's verdict should be based on both the accuser's side of the story and public opinion...I suppose in yours and other people's eyes he is a rapist but that's not so in the eyes of the law.

  • Thamsanqa - 2012-05-24 08:32

Ja ne!! Malema used to absorb all the pressure directed to Zuma...... Now that his gone Zuma is on his own. Surely the guy will quit before Mangaung

      Talking bull baba

      Maredi - 2012-05-24 09:47

Do not bank on Zuma quiting broer, he has a large family and the state must keep looking after them. He also has to accumulate wealth though his family proxies. You can shame him all you like but it won't work becaues he has lost all sense of shame! A shameless thief!

  • elize.vankerckhoven - 2012-05-24 08:37

And you think Zume will approve of this??

  • jmareletse - 2012-05-24 08:39

Its like Zuma he is jinxed, he must jst forget abt serving another term. I wonder what's next....

  • neo.khemisi - 2012-05-24 08:41

This is stupidest idea I ever heard go back to planning again

  • Salani - 2012-05-24 08:43

It is not raining but pouring for zuma, i like it when zuma get the taste of his medicine.

  • ziphok1 - 2012-05-24 08:47

I wish people must avoid making Zuma looks like a victim. Once lot of people turn againts him he always get a lot of support. I think everyone wants to get notic by talking about Zuma, lot of people will feel sorry for him and we all know what happen befor 2007.

  • Phila Mtshali - 2012-05-24 08:52

its a bit stupid since Mr JZ was found not guilty,so by law he didn't rape her,why dnt they find someone who had a accuser found guilty.m nt saying JZ did or didnt do it m jst saying by law he didn't.N wat JZ and the anc sue her?

  • Carolyn - 2012-05-24 08:58

Poor woman, who will guarantee her safety Zuma he can't even control his own kids

  • mmenzisco - 2012-05-24 09:02

Was he really raped??? Not according to the Court. What is she going to say to the Public? May be the ANC will have to sit and watch this time, while Judiciary of South Africa take on Azapo and Khwezi. Because they say Judiciary of South Africa doesn't do it's job.

      Zandile - 2012-05-24 09:43

i m also wondering how can she run away, she cant defit Jacob Bafazini Zuma shame!YEBO33

  • Cate - 2012-05-24 09:06

This really does not sound like a good idea.

  • Ntombizodwa - 2012-05-24 09:06

If he agreed 2do that n something happen to her, are u not going 2point finger on him?. Some of the issues doesnt give us a way forward, then why are stil wasting tym on it? cann't we move on with life?

      Maredi - 2012-05-24 09:50

Move on to where Ntombizodwa? We are going nowher fast with Zuma as president.

  • Tshepo - 2012-05-24 09:07

President Zuma was aacquitted of the RAPE charges. So does the accuser fit the description of a RAPED person. I don't think so. Der r so many rape victims who can be used. AZAPO look at the legal side of the matter before labeling her as a rape victim!

  • alfredo.jordaan - 2012-05-24 09:08

Why use a woman for a rape campaign when courts has found her claims to be false...Stupid really, and to expect Zuma to insure her protection is just preposterous.Back to the drawing boards Azapo!!!

  • ludlowdj - 2012-05-24 09:13

At least she will be a known face and a known figurehead for this campaign, more south Africans would recognize her and the plight victims face.

  • George - 2012-05-24 09:16

It looks like the sinking ship Azapo will stop at nothing to get to the limelight. Azapo has no role is SA. They are irrelevant and they must just close shop. Trying to make a name by uncreative means is pretty low. Why can’t you sell yourself to the public by engaging in robust policy discussions? Tell SA what you policy position and what you stand for instead of being second-rate drama queens. First of all the woman is not a rape victim and secondly why would you want to use a rape parade a rape victim to the public for your own course? That’s pretty stupid and people are justified to liken your leaders with morons. We have enough campaign in SA which are run by credible NGOs.

      Maredi - 2012-05-24 09:52

Warra Mpaketsane, this is not about Azapo, this as about rape in SA. Can you stick to that please?

  • Schmee - 2012-05-24 09:16

And exactly how can you expect her to be the face of an anti-rape campaign? The whole trial showed from beginning to end how rapists get away with rape. It shows so much about what is wrong with this country and its courts.

  • Daniel - 2012-05-24 09:17

I guess there's nothing to stop AZAPO using the name 'Khezi' to represent womens' issues - that way they'll make their point without putting her in the firing line (if that's really their conviction)

      Daniel - 2012-05-24 09:18

      Doh 'Khwezi'

  • wrkruger - 2012-05-24 09:19

Look at where this country is going - guess that's what politics are about..... Hope she lowers petrol prices lol

  • Issa - 2012-05-24 09:21

Am afraid her coming will provoke anger in the pipo who love Zuma and the ANC and it might cause a problem to the life of the lady and the general public. She accepted to either lie in return for money or the truth which turned her in the wrong side of the law. AZAPO - the idea must be re - researched.

  • Stephen - 2012-05-24 09:30

She can testify whether the spear painting is accurate or not.

  • Ringeta - 2012-05-24 09:30

AZAPO want to get votes from Malema.

  • Zandile - 2012-05-24 09:36

she had to run away from the mighty Jacob Bafazini Zuma, now South Africa has to stand still because of one stupid court case of a painting. He disrespected himself from the first day he was the President is he enough with his current wifes.

  • Zandile - 2012-05-24 09:40

    poor girl

  • Bra - 2012-05-24 09:42

As an Black Power activist I found it naive and lack of political maturity for AZAPO to embark on this route. Why this woman. the are many other where rape was astablished in court. In her case it wasnt. So why her as the face of your campaign. If you really want to contribute there are a lot of wictins of rape out there. Why not take the girl on the mass rape video and hlep pay for her therapy. Think it over. You doing no-one a favour by going that route. Col(ret) D. R

      George - 2012-05-24 10:03

      My point exactly.

  • Ayanda Yaya Khumalo - 2012-05-24 09:42

if azapo want someone to campaign they must used their owner azapo members and that gal will not agree with this

      George - 2012-05-24 10:04

Well she may agree. I wouldnt be surprised given her credentials.

  • bonganiemmanuel.mazibuko - 2012-05-24 10:07

political immaturity from azapo, why dnt they use their people for their campaign or there are lot of rape victims in SA, why specificaly khwezi? Nonsense

  • st.mbhele - 2012-05-24 10:12

AZAPO is trying to use that woman for their own intentions to get to Zuma @ the expense of that rape accuser which is almost as bad with what Zuma was accused for. What exactly is AZAPO trying to achieve by doin this??!!

  • zymsimango - 2012-05-24 10:14

this woman must stay there, not come back. this artist who made jz potrait must do his job, help azapo with their campaign by drawing her with her private parts hanging out.

      st.mbhele - 2012-05-24 10:26

Hahaha totally agree with you great idea!

  • tricia.sutherland1 - 2012-05-24 10:30

Leave the woman alone - do not use her this way. i'm sure there are many others here who may not have brought charges but who would be willing to be the faces.

  • VukileDMgijima - 2012-05-24 10:35

I think AZAPO should get a woman who was actually raped, not the confused woman who hoped to score from Jacob and others through lies. Good idea, but wrong manner of execution.

  • Merle - 2012-05-24 10:47

She lied about being raped. So why should she be a spokesperson? I don't get it. How can she be rewarded for that?

  • khwezi.ndawonde - 2012-05-24 10:58

AZAPO with 5 member are desperate to become the ruling party shame on you, try something else

  • khwezi.ndawonde - 2012-05-24 11:37

Politics is dirty, now ANC is close to Mangaung AZAPO want to score political gain. why now, the woman was raped long time ago and they didnt protect her or go all out to support her, politician are filthy they think for themselvs, its got nothing to do with people of South Africa, AZAPO is dead, these politician if all is about the republic, they should form a big party to oppose ANC, but because they are all greed, selfish and thinking about themselves as individual they are focusing in destroying one person who is in leadership for ANC and ANC put another one and they try harder, shame on you politicians, why always politicians they use woman to score or to destroy one another especial man, nxa, hayi mani

  • ninjacraig - 2012-05-24 11:39

ANC just released a statement saying "On behalf of the ANC we guarantee this woman that Zuma will try his hardest to keep his pants on around her. Although we cannot speak for the rest of our comrades."

  • Johannes - 2012-05-24 13:44

AZAPO has ran out of ideas they must close shop and join the progressive movement which is having 100yrs exprience in fighting for the poor.Leave the poor woman out of politics and respect her privacy.
