Cabinet reshuffle announced

2012-06-12 16:00

Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday announced a reshuffle of his cabinet during a special briefing at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Lindiwe Sisulu has been moved from the defence ministry to public service and administration to replace the late Roy Padayachie.

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula is the new defence minister, while Sibusiso Ndebele has taken up her position as correctional services minister.

Public Enterprises Deputy Minister Ben Martins will replace Ndebele as minister of transport.

Sindisiwe Chikunga will be Martin’s deputy in the transport department, where she replaces Jeremy Cronin who takes up the post of deputy public works minister.

Gratitude Magwanishe is the new deputy public enterprises minister, Hlengiwe Mkhize the new deputy economic development minister, and Mduduzi Manana the new deputy higher education minister.

Rumours that Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale would be replaced proved to be unfounded.

Of course he reshuffle his cabinet. He does it every time he needs to hide a buddy somewhere else. Now let's see who gets a turn at the trough.

      tuco.angeleyes - 2012-06-12 16:08

What he calls reshuffling the cabinet is actually putting the dodgiest elements in the back ground. When you are dirty and you have a dirty house, you take all the filthy plates from the sink and hide them in the scullery.and you rush upstairs and spray perfume all over your dirty self. it still don't change the fact that the plates, including yourself are dirty. the ANC is filthy. South Africas' political arena needs a spring clean

      jonathancfarrell - 2012-06-12 16:09

His got a song in his head again! Everyday He's shuffling...

      Oom - 2012-06-12 16:30

I wish that he would shuffle the pack such that the race card gets left out ...!!!

      sibusiso.mahlangu.946 - 2012-06-12 16:32

Ag some peoples are always negative.....Paulus, cant you have some constructive comment boet ?? fools like you dont build the nation. anyway i hope Ben Martins will be open minded to pay attention on the public pleas to get rif of the e-tolling nonsense.

      Ray - 2012-06-12 16:51

There is no point in shuffling a pack if they are all "Jokers".

      ryan.a.smith.3958 - 2012-06-12 17:16

why the hell is he shuffling ??? unless its because they were crap at their job and he's hoping they will be better at their new one. they'll still be crap though

      ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-06-12 17:35

Does he have anything better to do?

      Denise - 2012-06-12 19:53

If you took a quarter-century worth of His Excellencies the African leader and tossed them in a blender, you would come up with a Big Man who looks like this.... His face is on the money. His photograph hangs in every office in his realm. His ministers wear gold pins with tiny photographs of him on the lapels of their tailored pin-striped suits. He names streets, football stadiums, hospitals, and universities after himself. He carries a silver-inlaid ivory mace, or an ornately carved walking stick or a fly whisk or a chiefly stool. He insists on being called “Doctor” or “conqueror” or “teacher” or “the big elephant” or “the number-one peasant” or “the most popular leader in the world.” His every pronouncement is reported on the front page. He sleeps with the wives and daughters of powerful men in his government. He shuffles ministers without warning, paralyzing policy decisions as he undercuts pretenders to his throne. He scapegoats minorities to shore up popular support. He bans all political parties except the one he controls. He rigs elections. He emasculates the courts. He cows the press. He stifles academia. He goes to church.

      twellington3 - 2012-06-13 03:15

Leonard1, thinks just because Ben Martins has an english surname, he would perform better,* u are such a joke and a fool*. The white government failed long back, lest the ANC has tried something for the masses. The white apartheid government failed even when it used its resources only to take care of the needs of the 10% of the population. What a moron Leonard1 is!!

      Rob - 2012-06-13 11:02

welli07,with the rubbish you write you are showing yourself to be an even bigger moron!

      Brigitte - 2012-06-13 11:36

There will always be this problem until voters in SA can vote on constituancy lines - ie vote for your MP in your own area. Then cabinet ministers will have to have been voted into Parliament by the people. Currently you vote for the party who then put whoever they like into parliament and they are nearly all strangers to the voters. About time the system was changed!

      Preshen - 2012-06-13 11:40

manto tshabalala-msimang will always be remembered in cabinet ……… the liquor cabinet

      dave.kofang - 2012-06-12 18:40

Propaganda dept in the MK is far far different from the millitary force with with modern hardware. They make a mockery out of our defence force.

  • collinml - 2012-06-12 16:29

So when will he be "shuffled" out.It looks like it will be a very interesting ANC conference later in the year with two very different camps pushing their own agenda and not that of the people..

  • bdsileku - 2012-06-12 16:36

We will miss Minister sisulu. Bt we also welcome minister mapisa nqakula .

      Clive - 2012-06-12 17:32

But isn't Mapisa-Nqakula the one who made a terrible hash of Home Affairs? And didn't exactly cover herself with glory at Correctional Services? Ah well, Defence can't get any worse - or can it?

      Rob - 2012-06-13 11:04

So right Clive, just a case of replacing bad with worse!

  • andrew.mackie.90 - 2012-06-12 16:36

From the pan into the fire!! A new defence minister who could not control the Correctional Services now Defence minister. The mind bogles.

  • asanda.mndende - 2012-06-12 16:48

Mr Zuma please resign from your office SA does not need u. Only KZN wants u. Go there and be priemier. You have done enough to mess all the hardwork of Mr Mbeki. You came with tribal politics(zulu nationalism) you have even divided Cosatu, your are a poison. Please, please, please resign Mr president.

      dave.kofang - 2012-06-12 17:49

He wont resign cos hes too dumb to see the mess our country is in.When they removed Mbeki they thought running a govt was a piece of cake. Now his back is against the wall he comes with all this reshuffling nonsense.

  • George - 2012-06-12 17:05

Hopefully Sisulu will breathe life into Public Service and practice Batho Pele in the spirit of Ubuntu. Strong leadership can reenergize the public service. Something it badly needs. Remove racism from hiring policies. It shames South Africa. Hire on experience and merit.

  • owamin1 - 2012-06-12 17:06

This is the most confusing reshuffle I have seen!!! What is the purpose? Why change people who are in the middle of extremely critical programmes - especially Transport and Defense. The only thing that would have made sense would have been filling the Public Service vacancy created by the death of Padayachee. Everything else makes no sense whatsoever.

  • willem.wulfse - 2012-06-12 17:07

    The spear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • rezo.mosepele - 2012-06-12 17:10

Change of personnel isn't the solution really. We need to see drastic measures been applied by the presidency on fightining corruprtion and service delivery provsion. I believe if the goverment can combat corruption, people will have more confidence on goverment officials

  • hulisani.nemaxwi - 2012-06-12 17:10

Transport Department will now have a direction perhaps. Correctional Services is a sensitive department that needs someone better skilled and minded than Ndebele. The Department is already in tarters and yet Zuma beafed it up with a tata. This is a definite correctional suicide. Do you know this man can stand up and say he does not support incarseration of criminal as he did with the Transport Department where he failed to support his strategic parastatals. Nothing but Zuma indeed.

  • Ndumiso - 2012-06-12 17:14

The most critical and needed reshuffling was to move the president to deputy and the deputy to be the new president of the Rebuplic

  • Ntobane Setabola - 2012-06-12 17:21

Aaaii,Bro. Pres is a fart str8,he shld replace himself with a new born kid myb it can do better him.

  • kcvdw - 2012-06-12 17:23

This article said nothing. Why the reshuffle? I don't know who all these random people are but I would like to know why Zuma decided to reshuffles his deck and who gets the stronger hand by doing so.

  • nettie.potgieter.5 - 2012-06-12 17:25

Zuma know his friend Sibusiso wil organise a comfy jail cell for him once he is no more president of ANC and SA. He will have his day in court!

  • charles.mlaba1 - 2012-06-12 17:27

There was no need for a re shuffle, padayache could have just been replaced by a reputable\r\n Person end of story. Zuma wanted to axe Tokyo and somehow things did not work out the way he planned and that's why he didn't do away with him.

      brendon.nel.7 - 2012-06-12 17:47

They could have just replaced them with vegetable. A cabbage maybe. Surely it would be of more practical value.

  • Clive - 2012-06-12 17:27

Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic?

  • tax.payer.142 - 2012-06-12 17:32

  • ndyeboreginaldmazawule - 2012-06-12 17:34

  • brendon.nel.7 - 2012-06-12 17:42

How can u have a minister at the head of the military who has never been in the military? And the same go's for the police. What a joke.

  • Jujupuke - 2012-06-12 17:45

Sorry SANDF members that's the end of the road with the the new woman. She's gonna treat you like convicts too.

  • Dr.Ntsele - 2012-06-12 17:46

    Ya... Let's see what's next :)

  • william.letsong.5 - 2012-06-12 17:49

Minister Sisulu is the sexiest minister probably the only one in cabinet. So I don't care where Zulu, I mean Zuma shuffles her, as long as I see her I'm happy lol.

  • mantsho.tlali - 2012-06-12 17:51

Our contry is in the chaos of a bad leadership. and as long as Zuma is still in power with his cronies the chaos will continue, the choice of this woman as a police chief clealy shows how incompitent Zuma is, you cannot play with the lives of the people just like this, something should be done about this.My god!!!

  • Caleb - 2012-06-12 18:01

This is absolutely bullsh*t. Lindiwe Sisulu was doing a good job in the Defence. Zuma must jst step down he does'nt knw wat he's doing. I am nt happy at all with this reshuffling of cabinet.
