Zuma urges Africa to work towards UN goals

2012-05-25 13:41

Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma on Friday called on African leaders to accelerate progress towards the United Nations' millennium development goals.

"It must be a story that says Africa, working with its diaspora, will move faster to meet the millennium development goals," he said at the opening session of the Global African Diaspora Summit.

"The new story must say the rising new Africa will lead to the eradication of Afro-pessimism and prejudice."

At the same time, it should celebrate African achievements.

Zuma said leaders should consider implementing a skills database, a remittances programme, and an African diaspora investment fund.

African countries should exchange ideas on youth development and mentorship.
Women should be at the centre of change, he said.

"We need to excel in science and technology and innovation... in infrastructure development, and generally in activities that will promote growth and development."

Bee in your bonnet much John?

      TSR01 - 2012-05-25 13:53

JohnSloan, your venomous racist comments proves your idiocy and the true problem in South Africa - your @$$hole racist mentality. Do yourself and South Africa a favor, and burn your computer - you don't need it, and nobody wants to see or hear your savage, barbaric, uneducated DRIVEL.

      TSR01 - 2012-05-25 14:00

JohnSloan; go to www.dict.org and search for "racist". You'll find a picture of yourself, your psychiatric evaluation, and a little note mentioning what a bigoted scumbag you are being by expressing hatred against a race based on ethnicity. What is "White Privilege"? Is it Black Economic Empowerment? Is it Affirmative Action? Is it Job Preference Given to BEE / AA candidates? Perhaps your "precious" Wikipedia was edited by YOU YOURSELF to include your libelous hate-speech against a white MINORITY, paving the way for you to blame everyone but yourself for your own (or others') situation/s. I don't believe that anyone takes your garbage with anything more than a pinch of salt - why? Because you're a racist pig.

Is any World leader going to take this oak seriously?

      John - 2012-05-25 13:51

not after the spear fiasco, should stop worrying about africa and concentrate on our problems then focus on africa.

      bernpm - 2012-05-25 14:04

Due date for Millennium Goals is 2015! Little late now! Anyway, these goals were another UN pipe dream from the beginning in 2000+ :-))

      danny.levin.351 - 2012-05-25 16:15

No, you may recall the way that the media referred to Zoomer as an uneducated bufoon after his visit to meet the queen. The natives cannot comprehend that first world leaders are nice to them because it is the way people with dignity behave, not because they really like them or admire them. As a matter of fact, mos tof the western world is rather fed-up with having to keep on pouring money (in the form of aid and food supplies) to keep the idiots in Africa alive just so that they can carry on stuffing this up. There are two kinds of nations in Africa, those that rely on the west to feed their population and those that will do so, it's only a matter of time. there are few exceptions at the northen part of Africa, but they are few.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-05-25 18:26

Timothyl, World leaders are little more mature, than many on this site !! They are really not interested what JZ does in his home(s) They look at this governments policies, and although its achievements, are a mixed bag, overall it would still get a plus, with most leaders. Compared with economies the world overe, SA economy is not in such a bad shape. Nothing done about corruption ??? It is just not true!! The dept of Home Affairs was unbelievable corrupt upto a few years ago, and with that an inefficiency unimaginable. Not so today !! Very little coruption, and pretty efficient!! After years of insanity towards hiv Aids, this government has saved the lives of tens of thousands of South Africans !!! And one can go through most departments; It is not 'that' bad at all !! But where foreign leaders are more smart in; they can see the alternative !! They know, the DA, for the next 20 to 25 years, HAS NO CHANCE. So if JZ goes, than VERY LIKELY; Tokyo Sexwale, and he can ONLY succeed, having the ANCYL on his side, and THAT will brin Julius Malema into our next government!! And they are also smart enough, to realize, if this happens, you can say by by to our democracy !!!!!!

  • Timothy - 2012-05-25 13:49

"We need to excel in science and technology and innovation... in infrastructure development, and generally in activities that will promote growth and development." i.e. all things that make the tender

      TSR01 - 2012-05-25 13:54

Excel at expelling the ANC (the root of the infection which cripples our country) is far more likely.

  • jackal666.daniel - 2012-05-25 13:50

Enough with the talk Zoomer, we want action! Sort out your own bloody corrupt cabinet out first!

      Poloyatonki - 2012-05-25 14:10

Do you has evidence of corruption? I guess NO.

      Christopher - 2012-05-25 14:18

@poloyatonki. Are you being serious or sarcastic with your comment? I dont know anyone as yet, as I am new to News24, so getting to see who the clever and the dumb ones are around here...

      Gerhard - 2012-05-25 14:35

Poloyatonki is a regular and as such should be well aware of what is going on in the news. Let's look at a few examples of corruption and/or wasteful expenditure. 1. Advertising - Wasteful Marketing, e-Marketing and Self-Congratulatory Advertising - R19 570 000 2. Hotelgate - unnecessary property rentals, hotel stays and property renovations - R166 975 000 3. Cargate - wasteful expenditure on luxury vehicles for politicians - R69 735 000 4. Partygate - wasteful expenditure on parties, conferences and other events - R160 870 000 5. Ticketgate - wasteful expenditure on tickets to sports events and other entertainment - R196 975 000 6. Audited fruitless and wasteful expenditure - items of wasteful expenditure appearing in financial audits - R351 300 000 7. Other items of wasteful and fruitless expenditure - R2 863 385 000 And that is only the tip of the iceberg.

      Sharon - 2012-05-25 14:43

@ Gerhard - I wonder how much money is wasted on frivolous legal action.

      Mark - 2012-05-25 14:56

Poly, thought you'd started at least to read the papers by now. You are as resilient, and bloody-minded it must be said, as your feckless leader. I do hope that it serves you well even tho for the life of me I can't imagine how it will.

      Deon - 2012-05-25 15:28

We would like to see Mr Zuma in court for his 400 + cases of fraud and corruption etc. etc. that was stopped in 2008/2009. The reason that it was stopped is stupid: "political infuence" He is after all a polititian.

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-05-25 20:48

Jackall, ""Sort out your own bloody corrupt cabinet out first!"" you want to be 'clever' and make reckless statements like this, than be a man , and back it up; Which cabinet minister is corrupt ????? And details please !!!!!

      Nicolaas - 2012-05-25 22:07

@Poliodnkey, just you being here, is enough evidence of corruption! Go put away madam's laptop your stupid dickhead!

  • Bless Boswell - 2012-05-25 13:55

"We need to excel in science and technology and innovation... in infrastructure development, and generally in activities that will promote growth and development." Right Mr Zuma, all your actions created the exact opposite to what you are harping on about! You created the brain drain and now you crying because of the lack of it...Tough balderdash, Sir! You reap what you sow, as a result your garden of weeds is blooming beautifully!

      Poloyatonki - 2012-05-25 14:21

      dewald.galjaard - 2012-05-25 14:28

Hey. The glass isn't half empty OR half full. It's half. Nothing more. Nothing less. I don't pretend everything is OK when it's not. Oh and I'm not European. I'm South African.

      smiso.mkhonza.9 - 2012-05-25 14:39

@Loo put anyone u like but what I'm saying is don't criticise everything that is said by that man(JZ) let us be constructive and that is the nation is built.

      Nigel - 2012-05-25 14:45

Idiots tend to pick up criticism. Can't be helped.

      Rob - 2012-05-25 14:55

Correct Loo. The cANCer have ruined this country & to elect a man of Zuma's integrity & intellect to the office of president is an insult and a disgrace to intelligent people of south africa. They have inherited the greatest working infrastructure in africa & are destroying it day in & day out with the calibre of persons appointed in senior positions. It cannot continue like this. The minds & attitudes of the majority must change & only a constructive government with members that are pro-active & intelligent are capable of bringing about a change in mindset & mentality. Discipline & respect for law & order must be instilled in those that have an " entitlement " mentality.

      Mark - 2012-05-25 14:58

Got nothing to do with him being black and everything to do with him continually talking absolute drivel. Hate to add that he himself hasn't really done much to change the world either but what the heck......

To day is the African Day! This is for you AFRICANS!For to lead or to know where you are going, means you FURTURE, you must first enswer the following fundemental questions: 1) Where do you come from as Africans??? (your ORIGIN) 2) Who are you as Africans??? (IDENTITY) 3) Why are you existing??? (PURPOSE / MISSION) 4) Where will you go thereafter (DESTINY) The enswers to the above questions are critical and must only come from within us!!! We have today lost touch with who we are! this is due to our recent past history! After 400 years of Slavery, +- 150 years of Colonisation!!! Africans lost almost every thing withregards who tey are! WE MUST BE REHABILITATE! And this SPIRITUALY (Honour our own prophets and Saints), POLITICALY (Repeal Berlin Act, of 1885) and Scientificaly (have our own script, Calender, Education system, etc)!! PLEASE YOU MUST KNOW THAT WE ALREADY HAVE ALL OF THE ABOVE, just look arounnd, open your mind Africans! ALL STARTED HERE IN AFRICA AND ALL WILL END HERE THEN THE NEW ERA WILL START! PEACE IN THE WORLD AND THE WORLD IN PEACE!! WILL ONLY COME FROM AFRICA ( KONGO KATIOPIA)

  • danny.levin.351 - 2012-05-25 16:10

WELL DONE Polio Donkey!!!! Congratulations!! you finally managed to win the "village-idiot" award. My dear but not-so-clever racist friend: Are you really saying that there is no evidence of corruption within the SA government and all its spheres and subsidiaries? have you been smoking that green stuff again?

  • Alf - 2012-05-26 09:52

Look who's talking! Zuma talking about accelerating progress in Africa, while he and his gang are doing everything in their power to speed up regress in S.A.! Zuma should be brought before the international court in the Hague for violating human rights, i.e. preventing people from getting basic services, ruining education, ably assisted by his TWO eudaction ministers, almost non-existent health services, crime out of control, because of incompetent and corrupt ministers, commissioners, department heads etc., plundering the country's coffers by wholesale marryiages, fathering dozens of children in and out of wedlock and let the tax payer foot the bill to the tune of around R 20 million per year! This is no longer a cultural issue, Mr. Zuma! When will you have the guts to stand in front of your people and answer the question if you also would have 4 wives, dozens of children, concubines (not the same as porcupines!), if you had to work for a living!
