Yet another ANC activist has been killed in the province.

A former ward councillor in the Umdoni Municipality in the South Coast, Ntokozo “Lithi” Maphumulo, was shot and killed on Tuesday night.

His death adds to the more than 38 that have been recorded in the province since January 2016.

Maphumulo (41) was killed when he arrived at his home in the aMahlongwa area.

“Details regarding comrade Maphumulo’s murder remain sketchy, but it appears that his attackers were waiting for him at his home and fired a number of shots at him when he arrived, fatally wounding him.

The heartless assassins used his vehicle as a getaway car and they dumped it not far away from his home,” said ANC provincial spokesperson Mdumiseni Ntuli.

He said it was not the first time that Maphumulo’s life had come under attack.

“He was a fearless cadre. A few years ago when he was a councillor, his house was burnt down and there was a threat to his life and those of other comrades.

However, that never deterred Mashimane, as he was also affectionately known for serving his people.”

Maphumulo was also a former ANCYL Lower South Coast Regional Executive Committee member.

Ntuli said Maphumulo had served his community diligently and with integrity.

“The passing away of comrade Maphumulo will leave a void in the ranks of the ANC the alliance and the mass democratic movement in general that will not be easy to fill.

“He had dedicated his life to serving the ANC and his community and his outstanding organising and leadership skills will be sadly missed by many in the ANC ... The ANC urges members of the public to assist the police with information that could to lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the suspects,” he said.
