Cape Town – An ANC media relations officer has apologised after taking to Twitter to downplay EFF leader Julius Malema receiving a BA degree from Unisa, after claiming it as mediocre.

Khusela Sangoni, who identifies herself as a national co-ordinator for ANC media relations in her Twitter bio, said that she unreservedly apologised for her tweet that said celebrating a 35-year-old achieving a degree was celebrating mediocrity.

She tweeted on Thursday: “I unreservedly apologize for the tweet that offended many yesterday. I have & continue to value progression of black child & lifelong learning.”

Sangoni tweeted on Wednesday, after Malema received his Unisa degree: “We are setting the bar too low if we are going to celebrate, 22 years into democracy, a BA at 35 years old. This is mediocrity at its best.”

This was followed by many Twitter users, calling her petty and defending the EFF leader.
