Johannesburg – Public service and administration, monitoring and evaluation portfolio committee chairperson Makhosi Khoza received death threats while conducting an oversight visit in Mpumalanga, Parliament has said.

In a statement on Wednesday, Parliament said Khoza had received threats via the phone after she highlighted a number of problems in the Mpumalanga health services.

"Parliament does not take the alleged threats lightly, and a report would be made to the Speaker of the National Assembly… in order for the institution to determine an appropriate course of action," it said.

The alleged threatening phone calls would also be reported to law enforcement agencies for investigation.

Khoza, an ANC MP, made headlines in December for her role in the SABC enquiry and earlier last year chaired the ad hoc committee established to facilitate processes for the appointment of a new Public Protector.

According to the People’s Assembly, Khoza holds a doctorate in Administration, a master’s degree in Policy and Development Studies and is a fellow at the Aspen Global Leadership Institute.
