Mbombela - The EFF in Mpumalanga has accused ANC leaders of paying large sums of money to "unruly party agents" who tore down the party's posters from street lights near Mbombela.

Economic Freedom Fighters provincial leader Collen Sedibe said on Monday that the posters were torn down in full view of community members in Ward 20, Kanyamazane, on Saturday, during the voter registration weekend.

"This is very bad. The ANC has no political tolerance and these party agents are calling for war. The ANC leadership is sponsoring these agents with cash to buy liquor. They are paid big cash amounts and they have been instructed to cause problems for other political parties by removing posters," said Sedibe.

Provincial African National Congress spokesperson Sibusiso Themba declined to comment on the matter.

"I am not going to comment about something I did not see," said Themba.

Ward 20 voting registration co-ordinator Zigane Mokoena said stations around the ward opened at 07:00 on Saturday.

"We had hoped the number will go up during the afternoon as some people were still at work. There were a few people, both the young and the elderly, but most were checking whether their names were still on the voters’ roll," she said.
