Durban - Assault charges against Sharks hooker Kyle Cooper were formally withdrawn in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

His attorney, Jacques Botha, told News24 that there would be a confidential, alternate dispute resolution process.

Cooper, who was out on R500 bail, was charged with common assault and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm following a bar brawl at the Bluff in April.

Cooper allegedly struck 19-year-old Camilla Johannessen during an argument and was then involved in an altercation with Johannessen’s father, Donald, in the car park.

Donald Johannessen’s wife, Cindy, previously told News24 that they were not comfortable speaking to the press.

"We need to speak to our lawyer first because we don’t want to say anything that is going to be turned against us and jeopardise our case," she said at the time.
