Umhlali - A jealous Ballito husband who rammed his sports car into his wife's Mini Cooper also sliced up her lounge suite and bedding sheets, police said on Wednesday.

He was due to appear in the Umhlali Magistrate's Court after the marital spat saw him crash into his estranged wife's car at a plush Ballito estate in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

An independent police source, along with Umhlali police spokesperson Colonel Maharaj, confirmed that the man and his lover had been estranged.

“He is in custody and appearing in court... on charges of malicious damage to property. Before ramming his red Toyota 86 into her Mini Cooper he allegedly ransacked her house, cutting the bedding sheets and lounge suite up with a knife. The couple were apparently separated and she was seeing someone else,” Maharaj said.

The man, 34, is facing charges of malicious damage to property.

IPSS Medical Rescue said medics responded to the scene and that the woman and “a third party” had run away from the accident.
