Bloemfontein - A Bloemfontein tavern owner has been arrested after he allegedly shot and killed a man in his Heidedal establishment at the weekend, Free State police said on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old was shot in the head on Sunday night, police spokesperson Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi said.

He was rushed to Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein, where he died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It was not clear what had led to the shooting. Hlubi said witnesses were being questioned.

The owner was expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
