Cape Town - A body found floating in Durban harbour on Sunday may be of one of the four people who were swept away while trying to cross a river in Chatsworth during heavy rain, police said.

Major Thulani Zwane said a special rescue team found the body of an adult in the harbour and thought it may be one of the women in the group.

Officials were waiting for family to identify the body.

Three women and a 4-year-old girl were taken by the river in Chatsworth on Saturday while they were trying to cross it during the relentless downpour in the region.

The bodies of two women were found in dense bush along the riverside later on Saturday by specialised search and rescue teams and their dogs.

A dog from the Umhlali K9 Unit was injured while searching about 3km of river on Saturday and rescue teams have been working in difficult conditions as the downpour continued on Sunday night.
