Port Elizabeth – Springbok Johan Goosen shot his friend in the ankle by accident.

Netwerk24 reported that Armandt Stoman, 24, a friend of the rugby player, was shot on Goosen's farm near Aliwal North in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

"It seems Mr Goosen shot his friend by accident," provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills said.

Stoman was taken to a Bloemfontein hospital where he had an operation.

Mills said more information will only be released after police have taken statements from both Goosen and Stoman.

Goosen could not be reached for comment.
