Boy drowns in KZN dam

2016-02-15 10:12

Durban - Police search and rescue divers had the grisly task of pulling the body of a ten-year-old boy out of a dam in Nsuze in KZN on Sunday.

It is understood that the boy had been part of a group that had been running along the dam wall and jumping into the water, in search of some respite for the scorching weekend heat.

The child, who has not yet been named, had disappeared beneath the water’s surface and his friends later raised the alarm.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala said an inquest docket had been opened into the boy’s drowning.

“It is alleged that the boy drowned while swimming. Members of the Durban Search and Rescue and Umhlali K9 Unit conducted a search and the body was found. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” she said.
