Durban - A suspected burglar plunged seven floors to his death while trying to evade capture in a high-rise flat complex in central Durban on Friday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The occupant of a flat the thief broke into confronted him, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said.

He tried to get away by climbing through a window, lost his footing and fell. Police Search and Rescue Unit officers had to climb a terrace to recover his body.

An inquest was opened at the Point police station.
