Cape Town highway closed after cow, taxi and truck collide

2016-04-26 10:19

Cape Town - The N1 near De Doorns was closed on Tuesday morning after a minibus taxi driver was killed in a collision with a cow and a truck, Western Cape traffic authorities said.

The taxi collided with the cow shortly before 07:00 and the minibus was flung to the opposite side of the road, spokesperson Kenny Africa said.

“It then hit a truck head on, and the taxi driver died at the scene,” he said.

A woman sitting in the front of the minibus was trapped in the vehicle, as was the truck driver in his truck. The two were being freed from the wreckage. The woman sustained serious injuries.

She was one of six passengers in the taxi. Two were slightly hurt.

The national road was closed and would likely only be reopened around 11:00 once the police’s forensic team had completed its investigation.
