Cape Town - A woman, 53, and her daughter, 29, have been taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of the older woman's husband, who was stabbed to death in their Manenberg home on Thursday night.

According to police, the 31-year-old died after being knifed in the chest at his Peta Walk home around 21:00.

Spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed that two women were being questioned.

According to a police source, the murdered man had earlier chased his stepdaughter, wanting to assault her with a golf club.

"She ran into the bathroom and stayed there. She said she later came back out when the paramedics had arrived," he said.

"It appears the mother and her husband had an altercation while she [the daughter] was in the bathroom and he was stabbed."

Van Wyk said the incident was still under investigation.
