Cape Town - A Cape Town motorist had a lucky escape when he emerged unscathed after colliding with a train in Kalk Bay on Friday.

The train hit the front of the car from the side at the Kalk Bay harbour level crossing at about 12:10, City of Cape Town traffic services spokesperson Richard Coleman said.

The motorist was the only one in the vehicle at the time.

"No injuries were sustained," Coleman confirmed.

"Paramedics were on the scene to check him out and he was okay."

The crossing had been temporarily closed and no traffic was allowed into the harbour.

It was not yet known if the boom had been down at the time of the crash, Coleman said.
