Pretoria - The Centurion Licensing Centre was forced to temporarily shut down after it was burgled on Tuesday evening, with the suspects making off with computers, eNatis screens and camera equipment.

Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson Senior Superintendent, Isaac Mahamba, said the centre had closed its doors for the day to allow police to investigate.

The centre would be operational again on Thursday, but would only offer limited services, such as learner licence testing, practical driver testing, and the collection of new licence cards.

"There will not be any licence renewal services offered until further notice.

"The city's customers interested in licensing services are advised to visit Akasia and/or Bronkhorstspruit Licensing Centres, which are fully operational."

The Hawks' head office in Silverton was also robbed of computers on Tuesday evening.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi told News24 that they had become aware of the stolen items in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but that the burglary could have taken place on Tuesday night.

The intruders focused mostly on the human resources, finance and supply chain departments, which contained confidential information.

"We are still trying to ascertain if any documents are missing. That will only be confirmed once the forensic; fingerprints team are done with their work," he said.

No dockets were stolen.
